Default Working in Costa Del Sol

Hi I have been reading with much interest here, myself and my partner are looking to leave the UK and move to Costa del Sol area, ideally Malaga area, we have been looking at rental accomodation, household bills etc..
Can anyone offer any advice with regarding to seeking employment?

In the my partner works as an Office Admin clerk and I do temping, although I am a qualified fitness instructor and sports coach and in my sparetime run my own international martial arts association.
I would look to set up martial arts classes as my business but this will take time, so can anyone advise on sports/fitness employment, i can also work in Office Admin, retail, retail management.
    thanks everyone

Hi ninja68 a big warm welcome to the Absolute Spain Forum

Great to see you joining in. I have deleted your other two posts are they are basically repetitions of this one. Please try to keep to one area of the forum when asking a specific question it helps keep things organized and no hijacking existing threads if they deviate too much from the original topic

Be sure to read the forum guidelines and take a moment to look into the VIP membership we have.

As for your question regarding work, finding a job in Spain is probably the trickiest bit about moving to Spain. Working self-employed is usually the best way forward taking into account Spanish salaries (800€.... Maybe 1000€.... Rarely 1500€ and above)...

I suggest you take a look also at the Guide to Spain where you can find two interesting articles on working in Spain.

    Hi ninja68,

I'm new on the forum but have lived and worked here for myself for 8 years.

Let me tell you it's not easy right now. That is evidenced by the fact Greg has put this forum together and there are so many folks using it.

However on a more positive note, if you haven't already, try looking up some of the many newspaper classified ads. Most have an online presence.

Euro Weekly News is one and there are plenty more if you just Google expat news in Spain...or something like that...

You will need to be looking at the west side of Malaga, Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Marbella, Torremolinos etc.. because there is not much on the east side.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ed

Look in the Sur In English, they always seem to have the most in the sits vacant section, if you google them they have an online section too.

Personally I think as long as you have a trade and are tenacious you will find work. It might not pay as well as in the UK, but there are compensations...

My daughter, boyfriend and baby moved to Fuengirola a month ago. They are both now working and bringing in over 2 thousand euros a month. They are a lot better off than they were in the UK. They don't speak any spanish and their jobs are not seasonal!!!

Be careful who you end up working for - many companies treat their employees badly particularly non-Spanish companies - paying late or not at all. Jobs are not that easy to find if you do not speak Spanish and salaries are well below the UK. However I do agree that a trade and tenacity are important. Rentals have gone down and are easily negotiated further down but the cost of living here is not so cheap and I would say not that far off the UK.

I know many people here who have had uncomfortable times when their employers didn't pay them for months on end or the company folded but they still had to find the rent/mortgage.

My advice is come with enough savings to keep you for six months and always keep some money by for any eventuality and don't expect to settle straight away many people take over a year before they come to love it here.
