    Default American in Spain

    Hello all!

Im planning to move to Madrid next Fall and I will be going to school there, but I'd also like to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?? My dilemma is that if I get a student visa (I have enough money to pay for my studies) but I will need extra money for personal expenses, housing, etc. So! I either have to find a loan to cover those expenses, or work! So suggestions for either option will be gladly welcomed!

    Thank you much!

    Hi CieloMonique!

Madrid is a great city and I'm sure you will enjoy yourself... I studied in Madrid and several of the students at my university in Madrid worked. The most popular jobs at that time were working at a bar and teaching English.

Be sure to take a look at the article Finding a job in Spain from our guide to Spain.

I'm not sure however if your visa as an American student will allow you to work "officially" or not, so you should find that out aswell...

    Hi Greg,

Well, I don't believe it does allow me to work "legally" which is why i'd like to try and find a job before i begin school so that i can apply for a work visa instead of a student one.

I speak fluent Spanish and a little French. Do you think this is feasible?

    Thank you for your help!

    cheers!

If you speak Spanish and a little French your chances are definitely greater. I remember a good friend of mine working for Hard Rock Cafe in Madrid back then. As an American who speaks fluent Spanish and a little French you might have a good chance, perhaps you can even apply there online before you get to Spain?
