Hello million_dollar and a warm welcome from me to the Absolute Spain Forum. Bar jobs I believe are not so easy to come by as they were, the crisis, demolition of illegal properties and winter. I am sure some members will have better information than me though. Yes where are you thinking of moving to in Southern Spain BIG area :-)

Bar jobs, from what I can see are very much who you know and being in the right place at the right time. Also due to the economic climate, the tourist industry has taken a bit of a hit over here and therefore bar jobs are few and far between

With Brit bars closing daily, there are many experienced bar staff looking for work or returning to the UK. You haven't said whether you will be staying with someone, buying or renting property. It's a big step if you dont have a regular income, so you really need to give it a few months to see what things are like.

Thanks very much for the replies, I want to move to Fuengirola. Hopefully I will have enough money to last a few months out there with out a job. I also want to rent out there but I read on some website a few weeks back that you can't rent unless you have a job?

You could do a flat share/rent a room and that would keep costs to a minumim and you certainly don't need a job to rent something - although they may well want a hefty amount upfront to ensure you're not someone looking for a cheap holiday rental (bear in mind that in Easter/Summer you can charge a months rent in a week). The only places that seem to be doing OK at the moment are non-expat style bars/restaurants so you'd need to be able to speak Spanish and like most things you need to know someone that wants someone

Hi Million Dollar, Wecolme to the forum.....as other have said the economic climate in Spain is not great right now. I'd strongly recommend you do your homework upfront....maybe try phoning up large hotel groups or getting hold of list of local bars and restaurants and giving them a call in order to establish what (if any) type of work is on offer.....anyway I really do wish you the best of luck ;-))

Hi and welcome from the mountains of the Sierra Sur de Jaén. We are a friendly bunch on here and try to give help to those who need it and put a smile on the faces of those who don't.

Default It will not be easy

    Spanish Property 2012

I have lived in southeren Spain for many years and witnessed some drastic changes. I have also travelled throughtout Spain and yes the south does have obvious benefits but it also has its downfalls. My suggestion would be come over for the summer where obtaining work will be easier, however only for the summer. Yes, the days of old have gone, and speaking Spanish is needed to obtain better opportunities.I will say that there is a high rate of people returning to their home country for various reasons. The decision is not
an easy one, and it is even harder now than before.
Wishing you luck in your adventure
