    Hello Jason & welcome.
I believe (could be wrong) that you have to be a Spanish citizen to join up and serve.
Have you thought about this though ?, chances are that they will ship you off to some god forsaken hole where you will have to spend most of your time ducking to avoid pieces of flying metal

Personally, based on experience, I would set my sights a little higher and opt for the air-force. You are less likely to be treated as cannon-fodder and probably get more respect. Before all the pongos and navy-types on here get on their high-horses, as I said, this is my personal opinion.

Sorry forgot my manners, - Welcome to the madhouse; we try to help each other on here and maybe put a smile on the faces of some of the humourless old grouches.

Hi Jason and welcome to the forum,
I don't think you would have a problem as you say your father is in the Spanish army, you would be classed by the Spaniards as Spanish, regardless of where you where born.
If you 'Google' Spanish citizenship, you should find the EU sit e explaining exactly what you would have to do to register as a Spanish Citizen.

Try this one, 1st. line says you are Spanish.
    Spanish Citizenship and Spanish Nationality

Good luck and i agree with the others, i'd go for Air Force or Navy.

Marines you say, well take a tip and don't volunteer for any of that special forces stuff.

You also stand a much greater chance of getting yourself killed at the hands of some moron on the other side.

Regarding your US citizenship, you may not, it depends on the Spanish government's attitude. My wife has triple nationality/citizenship (Colombian, US, and British) the first two by birth and the British from marriage.

Jason, did you know that the Spanish Marines are officially known as Infanteria de Marina. They are part of the Spanish Navy, although at the moment many of them are serving with UN peacekeeping forces in Bosnia, Lebanon and Afghanistan. I served with the British Royal Marines, and am still involved with the Royal Marines association. Go for it. As as been said, if your father and grandfather served in the Spanish armed forces, you shouldn't have a problem. If you get through training, you will have more opportunity for active service, in fact these days, you are virtually guaranteed it. If you want more information, the website for the Navy is Fuerzas Armadas Españolas - soldados.com. then go to Infanteria De Marina.

Baldilocks, I am not criticizing the air force. My father was killed during pilot training. I just wonder what you mean by setting your sights a little higher, and getting more respect than the Army or Navy. Apart from the air crews, who I have the utmost respect for, the rest are basically civvies in uniform.
I have much more respect for the young lads joining the army or Royal Marines, knowing that as soon as they finish their training, they are almost certain to be on a flight to Afghanistan.
