Red face Places of interest and things to do in Valencia?

    Hi,

What is there to see and do in Valencia, apart from the new Oceanarium - I believe the largest in the world? Something of culture, interest during the day and something fun to do on a night, perhaps. I live in the Lower River Ebro Valley but my son (mid 20's) and his friends are visiting 8th - August -22nd August and they don't want to just sit in bars all day long.

Good afternoon Rosie and welcome to the Absolute Spain Forum. Have you tried a using the 'search ' facility here ? I am sure there are some posts about things to do in that area. Also have a look at the member user name 'valenciaholiday' she has a website which has some useful info at the bottom after the holiday lets under the heading 'Excursiones y visitas '

Hi Rosie and thanks for the mention Val.
Here in Valencia there is plenty to do, like most cities in Spain I would imagine, we have plenty of culture and heritage.
The best places to start looking would be the main tourist website for Valencia - www.comunitatvalenciana.com and www.valturis.com they will supply you with plenty of information. As the for the oceanografic you mention, I believe its one of the biggest in Europe not quite in the World, but there is plenty to see there and its surroundings in the City of Arts and Sciences, including a science museum, 360š cinema, opera house, leisure gardens, their website has just been updated and isnīt quite as "pretty" as it was but still very informative of what else you can find www.cac.es. Another place well worth a visit is the newly opened Bioparc www.bioparcvalencia.es its beautiful.

I hope that helps you out some. Also as Val mentions on my websites there is some info too.

Default places of interest to visit in Valencia

Thank you so much. It was mentioned in a Californian Travel magazine that Valencia has the worlds largest Oceanographic museum and had been fwd to me. Monteray in CA had always been a family favourite spot to visit, so I am sure my son will at least be visiting yours. These other links are very good and I thank you.

All this info does help and it depends which search engine you use Google or Worio Search what you view.

Perhaps when can exchange links with you and the forum, when the "rules" allow me to mention my websites.

    Buenas fin de setmana.

Hi Rosie, the forum is not for "mentioning your sites"... What you can do is:

    1) Include a link to your site in your forum signature (once you have made 5 posts)

    2) Add your site to our business directory

    Hope that helps

Oh I realize that it will only be in my signature or profile whatever. It isn't a big issue. I was implying placing the forum as a link on my site. The Terres del Ebre could do with a larger forum network.

Rosie, your son will find plenty to do in Valencia. Whilst there aren't any "big" museums etc like Madrid's Prado, there are lots of smaller ones (if he's into art, anyway). Valencia is a nice place just to have a wander round and soak up the atmosphere. There are lots of lovely parks, including the huge 25km long one that used to be the riverbed of the river Turia, which has the City of Arts and Sciences at the end of it (with the Oceanographic centre). There are also city tours by bus to get an initial flavour.

His best bet is to visit the tourist info centre in the train station when he arrives. They'll give him a map and answer any questions. Any decent guide book will have all the main sights in it.

the city centre is beautiful. It doesnīt have the hustle and bustle feel of a city, very calm with many terraces to sit and enjoy a drink or bite to eat. Try the local cuisine! If you are insisting on visiting British bars, there are a few Irish bars, in the centre itself you have Finnegans, in the plaza de la reina. But I would really recommend mixing with the locals, even if you canīt speak the language, it all adds to the fun.
