Default Retirement Homes for 1 million baby boomers

Thanks to ELJEFE we have another interesting new topic to discuss:

the BABY BOOMERS of the 1950's are coming up to retirement now
Not everyone has the financial capacity to afford their own property and many would not want to come alone or be alone. A new type of retirement home may be the answer!

Spain has the potential (especially given the climate) to become a place to retire in communities.

What would these baby boomers want?
What would they need or desire during their stay?
What would their "retirement" lifestyle include?
What would the facilities of such a place need to be equipped with?
What would the qualifications of the staff need to be (languages...)?
What would the activities and extra services on offer be?

Any other needs, wishes, you can think of?

On the urbanizacion where I live is a very well run English speaking nursing home. It caters for permanent residents and is also for short term rehabilitation..It caters for different disabilities, terminal illness, chronic diseases and other special health care needs. Electric whelchairs and mobility scooters can be hired..There is a wheelchair accesible swimming pool, excursions in their own wheelchair accesible bus. Internet, cleaning and full laundry service, actvity room, Permanent 24 hour professional care, including a doctor and physiotherapist. Single rooms or adapted one or two bedroom apartments with bathroom , kitchen, living room and balcony or terrace. Three meals can be provided daily if required. Extended family members can stay at the nearby Corazon hotel at reduced rates.

The nursing home is called Residencia Rojales. It is open to see the facilities, and gives a good idea of what a nursing home should consist of. Having one main language for residents must keep the costs down, and allows the residents to make friends easier. Many of the staff are bilingual, but not all.

I see the bus every thursday when they visit Rojales market. The Spanish bar in the market keep a number of tables reserved for them and their carers with easy wheelchair access. They all look as though they are enjoying themselves.
