Default Marketing and Business Plan to get 500,000 new expats to Spain

Michael recently brought up an interesting point:

I have two sons' in their mid twenties. It is difficult to get them and others here. They say it is mind-boggling boring; just restaurant life and little between them. It is a major reason why the Costas are littered with unsaleable ghost communities.
If Spain wants to attract tens of thousands of new buyers, investors, workers, entrepreneurs, business owners it needs to provide something... As michael says, restaurants and "little between" isn't enough.

You can use this thread to brainstorm ideas, suggestions and creative elements for a marketing plan and business plan. The aim:

Attract 500,000 new expats to Spain in 5 years

That's is my aim to do that (well maybe not so many) I need 680 old people to fill my retirement homes. How will I attract them, my retirement homes are for young at heart 65 year olds. Discos, swimming pools, sailing, golf, etc (no knitting, etc)
They are run like hotels, beds made every day, all inclusive buffet style meals for breakfast , lunch and tea. Cheaper than UK retirement homes.

I suspect you need some good marketing. Not really a job for the Spanish (or any) government. Have you investigated any marketing people in healthcare in the UK? If your service really is that good, and cheaper, I would have thought you would have a head start?

I suspect you mean British expats, and not just any expat? Spain is already planning to get a million more Chinese to visit in the next few years. There is also a substantial number of Russians seemingly buying up property in the land. But I feel all this migration isn't necessarily good news. Spain has had even higher immigration (in proportion) over 10 years than the UK. It works (to a degree) in places like Madrid and Barcelona, and that's where you'll find the jobs. But local economies that depend on tourism like the Costas, are not the ones that have done so well in the recession.

I have no idea of the marketing of old peoples homes, either in the UK or in Spain. Do you provide healthcare? - I think that will be a big stumbling block for many.
If you do provide the relevant healthcare, it may be worth sounding out various councils in the UK - they are under huge pressure to cut costs. if you can prove to them that you can cater for old folk cheaper than they can, you have a starting point - remember that councils often spend a fortune on older folk with no savings or house equity to plunder. I realise that many do not want to be away from family and friends, but many I'm sure would take the opportunity. I suspect the councils would snap your hand off for taking this liability (sorry for the term, but councils have to provide home helps, continual care, housing benefit etc etc for a lot of older people) off their hands.

Years ago, someone in the Greater London Council decided in their wisdom that the Spanish option was a win-win situation. They gave council tenants the option of staying or re-locating to Spain where an apartment was waiting; removal costs were included. This freed up housing stock, for selling to Tory voters. It worked. In effect the council tenants were seen as squatters sitting on valuable real estate. Everyone emerged happy though I think the Council Leader lady’ involved later did a runner to Israel.

I was aware of the Homes for votes scandal, but I 've not seen any reference anywhere to re-locating tenants to Spain. I was under the impression tenants were just sent elsewhere in London

Homes for votes scandal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An important part of this policy was the designation of much of Westminster's council housing for commercial sale, rather than re-letting when the properties became vacant. The designated housing was concentrated in those wards most likely to change hands to Labour in the elections. Much of this designated housing lay vacant for months or even years before it could be sold. To prevent its occupation by squatters or drug dealers, these flats were fitted with security doors provided by the company Sitex at a cost to local tax payers of £50 per week per door.

Other council services were subverted to ensure the re-election of the majority party in the 1990 elections. In services as disparate as street cleaning, pavement repair and environmental improvements, marginal wards were given priority while safely Labour and safely Conservative parts of the city were neglected.

Another vital part of 'Building Stable Communities' was the removal of homeless voters and others who lived in hostels and were perceived less likely to vote Conservative, such as students and nurses, from Westminster. While this initially proved successful, other councils in London and the Home Counties soon became aware of homeless individuals and families from Westminster, many with complex mental health and addiction problems, being dumped in their area

I almost fell from the chair while reading 400€ a week. The state's residence in Switzerland is about 1300€/w for a double-bedroom.
Yes ELJEFE, just say that price!
