    Default Rescue Dogs

You just never know what their history is. My wee what ever she is has had nothing but troubles since we rescued her. She has articulation problems in all joints. She got cacti spines in eye. She seems to be ill every winter ... well the 2 we have had her. Now she has an inoperable uncurable problem with one side of her jaw. She cannot chew her bones /chews anymore and is on soft food only. I have yet to find out the prognosis for her but it does not look good.

Val try her on pieces of pumpkin. Lucas has that with boiled carrot, and courgette. Put the carrot chunks in first, Bring to the boil, add the pumpkin, cook for further three minutes, add the courgette slices. give another two minutes. strain, allow to cool then serve. Let us know if he likes it. Lucas picks out the pumpkin first, then the courgette, then the carrot.

What a challenge though! We have a rescue dog and she is in perfect health, she is spayed, chipped and bright eyed and bushy tail. She is a Husky/Padenco cross. On our walks she has fallen in love with rather a large Spanish Mastin we call Micky. He walks 4 miles with her, sees her home where we feed him with a big bowl of biccies. He stays on the outside of our fenced property all day and then goes back to a stable where he sleeps at night. He then repeats the following day, all week. Its only a matter of time before he comes into the garden and is adopted by us, he is one big hunk of a dog but without a bad bone in his body.
We have 7 rescued cats [5 Siammes, One Persian and Harry the 17lb tabby!!! and Luna our rerscue dog. Long may they reign!!!!!!

My dog is able to eat dog food but when the jaw gets worse there will be no option other than to let her go. I could not and will not let her suffer.

I'm so sorry Val-- it must be heartbreaking. If that happened to one of my dogs I would be distraught--but I'm sure she will have a great time with you until she can't eat .Thinking of you Lx

Aye a fair few times I have wondered if I should let her go now but most days she is fine and as I say she is eating without problem for now.

    Thanks

The wee monkey has had me to hell and back she has lost all muscle tone and looks painfully thin, she has bald patches on her legs and a few round her eyes. The vet said it was an allergy and gave medications and shampoo for it. It has not got worse maybe a little better.

Val, do keep us updated on how your little dog gets on.

We don't know our dog's history as she is a rescue dog too, however she seems fit and healthy. The vet reckons she is just over two years' old. Our only problem is her weight (she was spayed before we took her in): at the moment she is on Brekkies Light and if she doesn't lose weight on that we have to take her back to the vet. She is a small dog (just over 8 kgs but she should be less of course!) and we take her for several walks a day. Of course every time we meet a Spanish person who hasn't seen her before, they say she is "gorda"! No beating about the bush here......

Scally is small and should be around 6kg must be less than that now. She never gained weight after spaying, I reduced her food intake slightly, the vet was delighted at the mere suggestion as he sees way too many overfeed dogs mainly lack of exercise or too dog treats or human food

Over the last few days I have upped her exercise as she seems to be able to do a little more :-) back to only a 1/4 anti inflamatory tablet maybe once a week for her arthritis. Not yet finished her course of medication for the allergy.

Our little dog Lucas, who we have had since two days old and will be 7 years old this month suffers badly with allergies. Although the tablets and injections helped to an extent, they contain cortizone, which is not good for the body. We now buy Hypo Allergic biscuits from our local pet shop. It is made by a Spanish company, I'm not sure of the name, but will find out. It's the only one with no meat or fish products. We also supplement this with steamed vegetables once a day.(in a seperate dish) He likes carrots, cabbage, french beans, courgettes and his favourite pumpkin, with a smidgeon or wee dram of olive oil. At first he may not like the taste of the biscuits, but if you gradually introduce them, he will pick out the meaty ones first, then when hungry start to eat the others. You can then reduce the meaty ones, till he is eating only the veggie ones. It's worth a try.
