I rely on my UK Government pension, so obviously the exchange rate effects me like many others, however I first bought property over here when the Peseta exchange rate was excellent, and I can remember under the euro it being as high as 1.58, so I know I have benefitted under the golden times, and have to adjust now.
Why complain? in those Golden times, we were able to buy things, that Locals could only think about, it is a reality check! If people were stupid enough to overstretch themselves during those times, they deserve all they get now, if they thought it was just going to go on getting better, then they lived in Narnia.
These things do go in circles, and I believe times will get better, not to the extent that they were, but enough to notice, however it will take time, and I do not expect it to be any time soon, when it comes, I will probably be more thrifty as a result of the lessons learned by others.![]()

January 2007, the Euro was over 150, after that it went down.
I first arrived in 1962, since then exchange rates have gone up and down with regularity. Cadiar is right the British pound will rise again, however it is the Euro that is in trouble, there are so many countries using it and there appears not to be any sort of unified fiscal policy or control. Maybe the U.K. made the right decision to stay out and control its own currency.
Regarding people leaving Spain, it was the same in Australia, people came they didn't settle, moaned and whined that it wasn't England so they left, then they moaned all the way back to England, probably still moaning now. If I meet someone that whines about the life here, I offer them a lift to the airport, no one yet has accepted my kind offer.
It is like the saying, "The grass is always greener on the far side of the hill,"

Yes but in her view completely out was good.....that's ok but the halfway house those Muppets have kept us in for over a decade when our currency was eroding.......and what's more we pay a massive contribution to Brussels.....
Also remember when Maggie set the ball rolling the Euro/Sterling conversion rate was showing a very different picture......
Thinks that if all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion
