I think people try to show both sides of the story. Prices have gone way this past months I have noticed vast increases in my local supermarket. I am not in the job market at all but hear from locals and people around forums etc life is tough. regarding bills all areas seem to be a bit different so we give what it is in our case. In general I think it is more expensive than when I came here. I will soon be in the postion of paying all the bills and will have more of an idea what costs are here near Sevilla.

It may not be very positve BUT it is honest.

What kind of positve help do you want ? I read the replies to your questions about your line of work is maybe more difficult then that of your boyfriend. You say you have a place and as EL JEFE said that is a good start. We do hope you find work.

I must admit,it took me a while to decipher your post...Some things are more expensive here, while others are cheaper..As the Pound has devalued by about a third in the last few years against the euro, The cost of living for those of us paid in sterling, or on British pensions has gone up by a third. If you are going to be working and earning euros,
that shouldn't apply...I was just wondering as to what work you are planning to do. Unless you have a job to go to, or are going to start your own business, jobs are not that easy to find. Where in Murcia are you planning to live? If you are buying a house, you will find the Council tax to be only a fraction of what it is in the UK, but some other bills are more expensive.

Sorry, I didn't realize you had two threads on the same subject.

    Hi Becky

Welcome to the forum.....right now the economy in Spain is not good and it's very difficult to find work but that's not to say it's impossible.....You may need to be flexible in the type of work you do in the short term, for example whilst you're learning Spanish.

Now onto bills, well they're much cheaper in Spain.....our annual rates charge are about the same as what we pay in 1 - 2 months in the UK and in my view the service delivered by the Spanish councils is far superior for example we have daily collections, the roads are regularly cleaned and we have poop controllers

Electricity is quite expensive but as it's usually warm the net effect is that you use much less and thus your annual expenditure is less

Food and drink has gone up but it is still a lot cheaper provided you shop where the Spanish shop.....

Finally it's advisable to come prepared and bring enough money to survive about a year......(it may take a while to find work in the current climate).

I'm sorry if people sound unhelpful--as Val said I think people are trying to be realistic.Whatever the health vacancies as Jo said before-you must have fluent Spanish language--that seems to be the key.I don't think most of the jobs above would be relevant to you--doctors-physios and skilled medical jobs.20% of Spain is unemployed--a very high level.I'm sure you will find work in time but you may have to change direction and find something where you don't need language skills till you are up to speed!
    Good Luck!

Whereabouts in Murcia is your villa? John and I live in Jumilla, which is inland, and we find our bills are very reasonable compared to the UK: electricity may not be cheap but we don´t need to use it as much in winter. We buy our fruit and veg in the local market, although we also shop in the supermarkets. If you drink wine like we do, or smoke (we don´t smoke) buying those in Spain will definitely add to your savings!
