    This thread is so misleading, not because of the posters, it is because all areas are completely different and interpret the rules so differently.

    The only way to be absolutely sure of the correct procedure, is to apply local knowledge, ask your neighbour, might just save you hours and hours of frustration.

    The thread is not misleading, the whole point is the system is different in some way in most areas. I think what everyone would agree is that it will most likely not be a simple procedure even if you take ALL the papers photocopies etc etc That is why some also suggest you find a loacl gestor to do the job for you.

    Yes Val a good Gestor costs little & saves a lot, that is of course why the Spanish use them

    Brian, once you have a nie number, local differences mean sod all. I still think the best thing is to apply through an embassy or consulate prior to arrival in Spain

    Yes Willie this I would have done had I have known about this piece of paper before our first visit, but it was a painless/quick job in Gandia with an estate agent in the end.
