Default Spanish car insurance & breakdown cover

    Hi everyone

We finally have a set date that we are moving to Tarragona

    Next Friday...Aghhhhh so excited!

I have bought a ford transit to drive everything over, ferry to Bilbao and driving the rest

My only dilema is finding an insurance and breakdown cover company in Spain to use as UK companies will only do limited cover

It will need to cover our journey over and for a few months before we sell the van and get a Spanish registered one

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks in advance

    The noonar

I don't know what all they cover, my late husband used Linea Directa with no problems for the car.

Wow how exciting.....good luck I hope all goes well

We've always found Mapfre to provide an excellent service. You could also try them and see if they are able to help/compare prices
Thinks that if all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion

A Spanish Insurance company will not insure the van, but a company like Knights in Javea will do so via a Gibraltar subsidiary.
The van though (assuming its UK plated) ain't worth 2 bob here on resale so bear this in mind.
    Have a good trip !

    Thumbs up

    Cheers you lot, much appreciated

I have spoken to Linea Directa Val and they are pretty good so will look at them when we have a Spanish vehicle

The van may be difficult to sell off so may have to wait and drive it back over to the UK later in year, sell it there and get a flight back, might get 5 bob for it then instead of 2 lol!

I think the cost of transfering it to Spanish plates will be quite costly so might as well get rid and get a spanish van later on instead

I'm waiting for a quote from Knights in Javea now, hopefully they can help, if not I think I'll have to get tourist cover and sell off sooner

    Thanks again

They can help & will as I insured my LDV with them when I first came here when I just "assumed" that you could easily insure/change registration etc
Commercial's are a no no as far as changing registration is concerned.

Lucky for you though we can now tip you off, before the off

We had some bad experiences with Liberty Seguros but are very happy with Pelayo, who we have been using for the last 3 years.
