Hi again CD just read your post about your nearest hospital..you say its the most modern..I just wanted to know is the healthcare in Spain good. I mean are the hospitals clean..and staff good? I hope you can answer my questions as that would be a very important part ..should we need medical help.
It sounds nice where you are ..and to have good neighbours is a real bonus!!
Thanks very much
Lillytree
I think the healthcare here is very good. Hospitals and Ambulatorios (local doctors) are clean (spotless where we go ) and everyone is very friendly.
Have also been to emergency department at the hospitals several times and have no complaints at all.
Despite what has been potrayed in the press the health care here is second to none. We pay as you go with regards doctors etc as we are not pensionable age yet, and when that happens [soon, very soon!!] its free. The hospitals have no waiting lists, the emergency response is excellent and the clinics are fast and efficient. However, the beurocracy here is stiffling and the amount of forms you have to fill in is unbeleiveable [photostat everything 10 times including your sock size!!] Dont think you will get a result first time unless you take a fluent spanish speaker with you as this does not happen. Most of the doctors out here are US trained and speak good english but there is always the exception. These things are not worthy of worry but be aware.
Lilly you have no need to be concerned with health care here in Spain or condition of the hospitals IMO, and any town over 2000 people (think i'm right) has to have a medical centre that is staffed 24/7 (we have one here)
Do you drive?
Looks likely that you "will" need health insurance & that being the case, will it cover your child's condition.
None of the Doctors in our Health Centre speak any English, although they have expressed a wish to do so, with more English in the Community. However they make every effort to make themselves understood, if you do not have a Spanish speaker with you. You will always get there in the end, as long as you make the effort, even if that only involves, 'trying' to translate the problem on a computer and taking a written note with you.![]()
