I will try not to ramble too much on my first post. My family and I are looking to move to Spain and yes we have a million and one questions about doing so. Our main problem is the school system, we have 3 children one is 11yrs old and is a real concern. We are spending a lot of time researching before jumping in without a clue, just found this forum and figured it would be a great source of information from real people. So just saying hello and will be back with questions |

Hi Virago...Welcome to the site. You can now jump in with both feet, and give us an idea about yourselves. What you are planning to do in Spain, what area you are thinking of coming to...Your children will be taught in Spanish. They will learn quickly if they put there minds to it. If they don't show any interest, the teachers may give up on them..

Thanks for the replies.
It is a nice bike or will be soon (a hobby to restore it). CDThader, I am a freelance programmer and have the luxury (sometimes a curse) of working from home and my wife works full time but also runs a web based business (just started up). With that in mind Location is not so much of a problem. We are looking at Almeria, as the starting point. It just seems to be difficult to find accurate information on schools and other subjects. I think the children being taught in Spanish is a good thing, granted it will not be easy at first but will benefit in the end. We do plan of getting extra lessons for the eldest before and after the move to ease things along. |

I have known quite a few family's who have had to return as their children found it very difficult to go straight into a Spanish school, all of them had children around the 12 years old mark & I do not find this surprising as it is hard enough to change schools in the UK let alone in another country where you are not fluent in the language. Younger ones seem to fare much better & soon fit in mind. Still I guess it all depends on the child/parental support etc. Brian |
