Just be realistic - I think it is a good idea to rent - whatever price they quote you - deduct €100 - and work from there. Make sure all bills are included and the Community charge and Suma (Council charge). You will have to get a landline phone and pay for that normally over and above but there are deals if you take packages - like broadband, line rental and calls inclusive. If you have contract phones in the UK change them over to Pay as you Go - I have Vodaphone and they let me keep my UK number, I bought another one for Spain here from Vodaphone. Again you may be better to take that in the landline package expecially with teenagers!!! Sorry, I could go on and on and on but the best advice is "Listen to all advice" - 10 questions - 15 answers - but be aware that some people think they know and they really don't. I wish you luck - I too have friends that have gone back, 3 - 5 years seems to be the time frame but there are all sorts of legitimate reason for that - there are so many variables: health, grandchildren, parents, separations, the heat - you have to give it a good year and commit to that - then take it from there. I have just contradicted myself by telling you this - "Come on down and give it a go" Carolina xx |

Hi Carolina,
Thanks again for replying, very useful information, as we have the children going through school we will have to commit at least 2 years before we can move as i want my son to complete his GCSEs, so hopefully by then my daughter will be happy in the Spainish school and my son will want to stay in Spain to continue his studies and we will still be happy there too, I agree that you need to be able to give any move a good shot and be realistic about the fact that there will be good times and bad times and i have explained this to my children too (god forbid that they think it will be 1 long holiday of eating out in resturants and doing no work for the rest of our lives, although it would be good if it could be lol). if you are doing something and think oh that wold be god to pass on, please feel free to pass it on. you think you know it all from the internet but i know i still have a lot to learn............ kind regards, Eve |
