baldilocks, glad to hear you are so content. Yes it still is cheaper here but not like it used to be. Even 2yrs. ago the diesel was only 66c a litre ( would have been 44p @ the pound/ euro then! )and a 50% increase on Spanish wages, which aren't rising is crippling.
I've just remembered reading that all the EU members have to "harmonise" the fuel tax rates within the next year or so and that the Spanish rate had to go up by a fair bit BUT the U.K. had to reduce theirs by about 15%! That's not going to happen, is it? They'll just call it by another name!

I was stressing accuracy. Her father was Colombian and her mother Texan. She and I both think of her as Colombian which, of course she is by birth but although she tends toward the Colombian in colouring it is ameliorated in part by the Texan (i.e. she is a little paler, until she gets in the sun)

By American I meant gringa - big, big difference. Do you think of yourself as Brit first or European first?

Sorry to hear about your friend's situation,it's lovely around Exmouth and all along the Devon coast, but not if you are struggling. I lived and worked their for 19 yrs,but in the end it had got as bad as London.

£3 a pint! no wonder the pubs are shutting. it is €2 here for just under a pint and 33 cents for a can in the supermarkets. Most people where I used to live rarely visit the pubs, they tend to socialise at houses of friends, or have back garden barbecues. The days of pubs are coming to a close, why? 'cos the drink prices are a rip off,

You've clarified that for me....(I think) Watching the football world cup I'm English.. Watching the Olympics, I'm British, and watching Golf, I'm European.

But.. If none of them are in it I'm Spanish.

    LOL

I am split 50/50 I route for Spain as much as England..

    Back to topic.

All these people going back are in for one hell of a shock , yes i know we arent as well of as we was money wise ( Euro rates , savings rates etc ) But i would still sooner tighten the belt and ride it out than take a loss and return to UK which is very shortly about to have street riots like you never dreamed about.. sad but its brewing slowly ...

Far better to watch it on Telly from a nice sea view terrace than be in it for sure

I have never understood why it has not happened before.

    Spanish Property 2012

We are staying too! Even with the exchange rates, my pensions have as much or greater buying power here in Spain and apart from ETA the Spanish people are more friendly and more like English villagers I used to know. The present villagers in England (apologies to the Scots and Welsh but I am really only familiar with the English ones) are mostly refugee townies who moan about the fact that there isn't a bus every ten minutes and there aren't three supermarkets just around the corner.
