Question Equal rights within the European Community

This is a question concerning equal and individual rights within the E.U.
with particular regard to certain taxes levied on foreign residents.
Take for instance The Spanish Matriculation Tax(not to be confused with Wealth Tax) which applies to vehicles and boats imported into Spain.
With certain exemptions this is 12% of value.
Is Spain adhering to the principal of equal rights by levying this and certain other taxes on foreign residents?

No they are not IMO !
If you buy a vehicle for Personal Use in the EEC then you pay your tax at source.
By all means put a Prohibition on it being sold on for a set time to stop the micky takers.

As far as the Spanish authorites are concerned, if they can get away with it, they will. The fact that they are in the EU does not seem to kerb them in adhering strictly to the old Spanish Laws which were set up to make money from the likes of us and the Spanish alike!

I certainly agree with your general view Keddy. Different regions also apply the laws in a arbitrary way. A case in point was when the Americas Cup was coming to Valencia. The Matriculation Tax on the import of boats was suspended, presumably to encourage the trade it would generate. Where are equal rights there?
