Default 244 euros electric bill for Nov/Dec is this right?

    Hi all
Just got my electric bill and yes I am stuck indoors over the winter more with the air con calefaccion on but 1589 kwh seems a lot and there all these additional costs. I only have a small apartment.
    What are our thoughts people

Does seem high Keith, but how does the bill/consumption compare to last years bill ?
On occasion Iberdrola send me an estimated bill, I then take the reading and phone them if there is a large discrepancy (rare) They do have an English speaking service & you can call them 24/7.
Worth noting that all bills are now monthly !

I don't know, but I fancy that an Air-Con unit that needs a service would use more power to keep an area cool/warm (maybe someone in the know will be reply to this)

Thanks playamonte for your reply . I can't compare as although I have had the place for for years only moved out in May of last year. It is for two months though. I also have a little fan heater as well. Today on a brighter note it has hit 20 c here in Sitges today and I have had the door open for the first time since November.
I was wondering if when you first arrange your direct debit with Endesa as a non resident with a passport they have extra charges?. I have not notified them I now have an NIE would this make a difference?

Mmmmm now we could not even complete, let alone get connected without an NIE number....did they really let you complete on your purchase without one?

My Spanish Solicitor (not the Turkish one I'm moaning about else where)

Furthermore we could not sign-up for Electricity without providing our NIE number.....it was also required for our Padron registration.

No I very much doubt it (lower standing/usage rate)

On a broader note !, yes a passport will suffice for most things.
Fact !................ I had a RHD car, but on Spanish plates a few years back.
I sold it to a German lad who wanted it for his son who had an arm disability, so off we go to the Gestor to carry out the deal.
Can I have your NIE he says to the German.
    Don't have one (he says)
You are a house owner I see, so you must have one.
I am a European & these are Spanish rules, there is no requirement under etc etc etc (he says)
In that case I will take your German ID card.
    Sale went ahead !

Told the fella over a coffee later that we (Brits) are all informed that we need a NIE, no you don't (off he goes into one)........... but, it may well be because Britain opted out of the Sheening Agreement (sic) ????

    Oh well

But I think Keith is British so that doesn't make sense

Oh well good on him if he managed to get away with it so far....other things we couldn't do without our NIE numbers were open a bank account, report a crime, get our water connected.....

Like Jaz, I don't understand how you can complete on a house without an NIE number. It was needed by the Notario, the bank, water & electric companies. The town hall, and to buy a car. The Ford garage in Torrevieja will obtain the NIE for anyone buying a car from them. My solicitor obtained ours when we put a deposit on our house.

If you die and leave money or property in your Spanish will...The recipient even if living in the UK will have to obtain a NIE before obtaining what has been left for them.

If in doubt, obtain an NIE. Its not difficult and do it yourself and save Gestors fees. In 99% you will have to have an NIE. The fact that people have done this and that without one, BEWARE, one day it will come back and bit you in the bum!!!!!
