    Default Found an Apartment:)

    Hi all,

So I have found an apartment to rent out in Malaga. I contacted the agent renting it and made arrangements to view in the following two weeks. It seems that my move to Spain will happen sooner than expected. Stressing my bum off over here, but what a time im having.

I just want to find out though, the apartment is furnished but I told the agent I dont want the furniture in. New start to life so I want new everything .

I have heard Ikea opened stores in Spain recently, will this be the best place for bargain buys or does anyone know a place or places in Malaga worth while. P.S. The apartment is in centro malaga.

    thanks!

Ikea Sevilla OMG what a place its always heaving with people who have NO spacial awareness .. we went on Saturday to get another mattress for our Ikea bed (they are different sizes from others) our frst mattress went out of shape and lumpy ! There were about 8 folk in the queue for beds, thankfully for us 2 decided they had waited long enough and left. That part went ok, she checked it was in stock and gave us the paperwork for downstairs also said the mattress cover we wanted was in the textile section. Downstairs we wanted some storage containers found them and found a good clothes airer. The cover was out of stock, the containers we got, the airer we could not see then found out you needed a number and collected it on way through to cash desks. Got number found bay BUT these had no casters on... yip they come seperately.. go get number and they were out of stock ! We chose a lane for payment of 15 articles or less and discovered that it was self serve ie punch in your barcodes order numbers etc then hey presto yip it YOU NEEDED AN ASSISTANT ANYWAY TO FINALISE CARD PAYMENT Now to collect mattresss, you have to look out at certain area for the number given to you by assistant upstairs to come up on board... big queue long wait .. several children who I could have cheerfully murdered lol and a man who pushed a spare trolley so hard it banged up against me and my trolley We were never so glad to get out of a place and said again never again ! this time if mattress goes wonky we will look for another place to buy a complete new bed.

Not sure about bargains but some of it is way overpriced for it is. I would be tempted to look for local muebles and try them. They are often cheaper and more reliable.

Good luck and have fun setting up new place.

IKEA is definitely your cheapest door to furnishing your apartment. Just don't be tempted to save there - their cheapest products can be a disaster... But if you buy in their top range you will not regret it.

Congratulations by the way on the apartment!

There are 2 second hand furniture stores in Alhaurin el Grande and a warehouse for secondhand furniture. I donīt personally think that Ikea is your best bet as their furniture does not last in extreme temps and is expensive for what it is. Look in the classifieds and save ytourself a fortune. By the way if you are Ikea oriantated then your nearest would be just east of Malaga airport off the A340.

I'm seeing that down south there are better options than IKEA... I said it's your best bet because most furnitures stores up here in Barcelona are a joke... Glad to hear we have local pros down in Andalucia who can confirm insider tips

Another thing to bear in mind is that IKEA are still working on an exchange rate of about 1.3 euros to a pound so consequently yesterday when I was looking at a kitchen island at £69 on UK site on the spanish one it should be about 77€ at todays exchange rate but was in fact 99€ it is the same throughout the range.

Thanks everyone, your advice is appreciated.
WOW! sorry to hear that experience Vail, must of been interesting though lol. Life really does sound interesting in Spain

Im leaving in two weeks to have a good look at the place, but I think I will only be able to move in 4 months time due to tying up ends with work over here. Stupid responsibilities lol.

I cant stop thinking about the move, all I want is to be there now,Ill settle for sleeping on the floor for now

But seriously I think the next couple of months is really going to be a challenging one to say the least but I suppose that is all part of the great experiences to be had.

Is Ikea the only 'big' franchise name or are there others?

There is an Ikea in Malaga. The Cheapest place to buy furniture is in Lucena, about an hour Inland from malaga. It is where all the furniture factories are, so you can have exactly what you want!

    NOOOOOOOOO

I had to cancel my trip for this week, bloody reccession lol.
I contacted the agent in malaga about my apartment, and she is willing to hold the apartment for a few more weeks, makes you wonder how busy they are......suppose its good for me though.....

So I have to be miserable for another few weeks before I can leave, but i suppose there is an up side, just have not figured it out yet lol

Sorry to hear that JP, but I don't get it? The agent canceled on you because of the recession?
