Question How to get Iberdrola power increase

I'm new to Spain and wondered what the process is to alter ( increase) the potencia / electric power to my villa in Calpe. Any idea what the incremental cost might be too.

    Thanks!

Good morning and welcome to Spain and Abosolute Spain

Yes you can get it altered by asking your supplier to up it and cost will depend on what needs to be done. Somebody here may have done it hopefully they will add some helpful advice/recommendation.

    Hello scotmjb,

Welcome to the Absolute Spain Forum

I hope you enjoy your stay with us. Be sure to read the forum guidelines.

I also invite you to look into the VIP membership we have.

To increase potencia you need to call the electricity company and ask them for an upgrade. You will pay a different rate as you can see here on the Iberdrola website.

    Hello Scot & welcome onboard.
As far as I know.............(I take it that the wiring & fuse boards are all fit for the purpose ?)

Go and see your local "Spanish" electrical contractor who is authorised to install/repair mains. Tell them what you need & they will uprate the fuse in the meter where it enters the property.

Your bill has (I guess) the lowest standing charge rate set at 3.5kw, this is standard practice in Spain, but does not mean that you cannot suck a great deal more down the line assuming the villa is wired as such.

If you decide to ask/inform Iberdrola, you will then pay a highjer standing charge for no gain !. Having said that we have just recived a leaflet from them with our bill which is talking about this issue, once I get a Spanish friend to study it & give me the lowdown as to exactly what the they are asking/telling me I will get back to you.

We went for the larger fuse (8kw I think) from the offset but I know quite a few people who upgraded their own fuses.....Iberdrola are losing money on this left right and centre.....I would be interested to find out how they intend catching those naughty monkeys who did their own upgrades........
