      Default Horno ( Oven )

Anyone out there using a small portable oven ( a horno ) - we purchased a new one recently ( Orbegozo ) and now we seem to burn everything we try to cook - turning the heat down does not seem to work !!

Perhaps there is some secret method ( the instructions were very poor ) of cooking or oven assembly.

Is has three heating setting - 1. top heater only 2. bottom heater only 3. both together and came with 2 trays and 1 rack ( seems a funny combination ).

Anyone use these and has advice ??

      Thanks

Are you letting it warm up properly before putting stuff in? Our normal oven operates the same way and also uses the top grill to heat the thing up so if you put something in it too soon it'll just burn the top

we used to have one like that. Best way is to (as Shiny Aandy said is to let it heat up first. Set the temperature, leave it for a few minutes, check that it is up to the right temp, by turning the thermosat back down until you hear faint click(that give you an idea what teh temp is) reset to the desired temp. when it clicks near the desired, put the food in. If you are only using the top heating element (which is basically for grilling) it will burn the food if it is too close to the element. I would recomend using the bottom element only and keep the food in the middle of the oven.

We have only recently got one of these, and although it is borrowed from a friend it works well. Have had cottage pie , roast beef and cheese on toast with the grill. I take it you have a temperature setting knob and like the others have suggested turn it on a little bit before you use it.

I think Spanish ovens are designed not to cook or burn as the case may be!!!We have a british gas oven in our summer kitchen and an aga in our winter kitchen. Sorted!!!!

Most Spanish ovens DON'T have a temperature setting knob and you are limited to Off or On. We have a thermostatically controlled one. The secret is to only use the top burner as a grill and only bake or roast with the bottom burner. DO NOT put things at the very bottom of the oven (on top of the burner unless you are cremating something), always try to put things in the middle (vertically and horizontally). We are the only ones locally who can cook cakes reliably (neighbours have no temperature control)
