I came across a great report from OPP recently and thought it would be interesting to see what our Absolute Spain Forum members vote.
The main reason Brits move abroad was the weather... And you? What was the reason you moved abroad?
Better weather
Better quality of life
Higher standard of living
Safer / lower crime rate
Slower pace of life
Higher income
Better food
The expat lifestyle
Mixing with the local people
A more social society

All of the above and my now husband was living and working hereI moved to see if we could build a life togther and decided YES then got married last year on Gibralter.
Just a country girl looking for a new life
Having looked at the list it would be very difficult to pick one. Perhaps rather than a poll we should have to list those factors that we appreciate in order. All apart from the higher income (as I have retired early) are the reasons for moving over here.
They vary by day as to importance or how they make me feel.
Today (according to BBC news weather forecast) the UK is under an icy blast from the north. So I am appreciating the blue skies here, a bit of a cool breeze but pleasant enough to walk on the beach with the dog. Even though I now have to put a jumper on.
I lived before in Crouch End North London so when using public transport I had to travel through Finsbury Park. Which was and still is an area of high and rising crime.
I have fabulous Spanish neighbours here who helped me sort out all sorts of teething problems when moving in and setting up house. In London I didn't know a single one of them by name!
I could give an example of all (but the employment) of the above where life is so much better. So I suppose if I had to pick it would be the Better quality of life as that seems to be the most all encompassing.
best wishes Keith
I happen to be an outdoors guy and the winter weather in Palma allows me to enjoy my life to the fullest.
I am perfectly happy with the slow life style, siestas, copas y caminas and all that comes with living in Spain.
Yet, for the sake of truth, I am biassed towards this island. I do not work here. I am as free as a bird. I am comfortable. I wake up every morning asking myself 'what is it that I want to do today?'... This is easy life and Spain is by no means the only place, where I could enjoy this kind of existance.
If you wake up every morning only to face more of the ubiquitous daily grind, everything changes. Spain or no Spain.
We moved here because the options were A) stay in Hong Kong or B) go back to the UK C) move to Spain Option A was a non starter as the cost of living was too high. Option B was also a non starter, as a friend once put it "Britain and I seem to have went in opposite directions" That left C , 25 years ago we had a holiday on the Costa Brava and we said then that Spain would be a good place to finally settle.
