Default Permanent Residency or even Citizenship?

Does anyone know how long it can take to receive permanent residency or citizenship in Spain?

Residency and citizenship are very different things and both depend upon your current country of citizenship.

I'm a US citizen. But there's not a problem of being a dual citizen.

I wanted to find out some general info from anyone who has been through either the residency process, as well as someone who may have obtained Spanish citizenship after leaving their birth country.

As far as I know when you are from outside the EEC it´s 10 or 8 years, and it´s about a 2 year process, good luck

It's 10 years if you are from another EEC country.(Unless you're a footballer)

We have been in Spain for almost 10 years from the UK. We have had residencia for almost all that time since applying for it after being here a few months. It doesn't take long and there are people over here who will help you all the way....Jeremy Metcalfe is our Fiscal Rep in Torrevieja and he has dealt with everything for us for years.

I have residencia, did it myself at the Delegación Gobierno. Produced birth cert. Marriage Cert. Certificado of Convivencia, from the Ayuntamiento, Police Check, 2 photos and I think I had to pay 8 euros at the bank. Once the lady realised I could speak a little Spanish, it was all straight forward. Took about 6 months. Ferry and air fares are about half price to Residents of the Canary Islands.
