    Default Ants :-(

Does anyone have a good way of dealing with the Spanish ants?

We have tried all sorts of things including Nippon, Terro (from USA) and boiling water but they seem to be impervious to anything short of a flamegun or a well placed shoe.

I don't think there are any army surplus stores near here where I might be able to buy a secondhand (or even new) flamethrower, and in any case, burning off all the plants on the patio and maybe burning down the house as well would seem to rather defeat the object.

So what do other people use or are we the only ones with an ant problem?

You are not the only ones we give them little yellow and /or white houses to go to and after some time they for some reason are gone it is an ongoing battle though and they die instantly die if theN are in my store cupboard ! normally they arrive there after heavy rains which have washed away their house and we ( being nice neighbours offer them another ) and so on it goes.

Ours seem to be a little smarter, either living in the walls of the patio/balcony or under the concrete floor - makes them difficult to get at and relatively safe when it rains. Cabbage white butterflies here have good eyesight I was trying to catch one that was determined to lay eggs on my brocolli and every time I got near she flew up and over the wall to where I couldn't get.

I am sure that a few white houses will encourage them to feed and die, we also have a powder barrier round the house. In the sandy soil it is nigh on impossible to eradicate the wee blighters, have to make do with control I think.

in mercadonna and vidal, you'll get an anttrap from Raid. It doesn't immediately kill the ant,but coats it with a chemical that it takes back to the nest infect other ants. (I think this is what is being refered to as white houses) costs around 3 or 4 euros Place it near an opening to the nest(look for little pile of fine sand with a hole in the middle) and leave it for a few days

Default Who reads this forum's posts?

OK got the little white houses today.

Next problem - not sign of an ant anywhere (prompts one to question whether they are reading this forum's posts and got inside information!).

They normally come up through the wall at one end of the balcony and there is usually a 20 ft long trail of them up the outside of the back wall to a hole in the wall about 18inches from the top. But today when I get back from Mercadona there's nary a one to be seen, anywhere!!!

Just leave the traps where you normally see them. they will be attracted to it and carry the poison back to their nest
