      Wink

Friday 19th - still no ants. Buying the white houses did the trick. Did someone say something about putting them where the ants run. I still haven't taken them out of the packet and they are on the shelf, they could last forever like that - very economical!

It occurs to me that the missing ants may have, in fact, taken refuge at lower levels, underground, to escape the heat of the summer sun. Do we have any insect experts on the forum who might be able to answer that?

find an entrance to the nest (you can easily spot one by the pile of fine sand they throw out) and place the traps near there. I am no expert on ants, but my friend tells me that the do hide from heat.

No...I read it in the 'paper. They have definitely not come this year, sun beds are freely available in all resorts at Any time of day. As for ants, well, I think they have us outnumbered!

On the 18/06/09 I bought the White Houses (well someone has to try & kick start the market) and one evening watched the Little Gang nip through the house and cart a piece of white poison ? off home. The Big Gang that were nipping over the garden wall seemed totally uninterested in the house & just used it as a cut though & continued to nip up onto the terrace when I wasn't looking.
Give it time I thought, and continued to blast the trail every now and then with the Mercadona spray, but for every thousand I killed a thousand would take their place (sneaky buggers)
Even the Little Gang showed no ill health & continued to scurry around searching for a dead fly or two, but as luck would have it I spotted a can of Jeyes Fluid on the shelf in Iceland and we gave them a good bath every day for the past week by mopping all surfaces outside.

      Gone !

I used ant powder and blow it down into the holes, but they just come up somewhere else in the garden.

I am lucky that I have never had them come into the house ( Famous last words!!) so I have decided just to let them get on with it. I just make sure I never stand too long in one place when I am in the garden, otherwise I soon get a nip...
