    Default Spanish drivers !

Can anyone explain to me why they have to move to the middle lane when there is NOTHING in the right lane ? why do they pull out in front of you just to dawdle in that middle lane ? why do they overtake then SIT nigh on side by side and block you in ? why do they overtake slow down speed up slow down speed up overtake then sit there again !!!! ? have they no spacial awareness on the road as well as anywhere else ? Why do they go in the far left lane then want to turn off to the right and just cross over cutting you up

How are they taught to drive the answer to that beats me !!!!

We went down to the marina yesterday and yet again I am flummoxed by their driving and lack of awareness/common sense. On the pontoon they block the entire narrrow walkway with hoses electric cable (sometimes even their anchor is halfway across the pontoon) their luggagae coolboxes etc and have no intention of moving it or themselves when you come towards them laden with things for your trip. When you ask them to allow you to pass they barely acknowledge you and move about an inch

How are they taught to drive the answer to that beats me !!!!

We've lived here for 8 years now. When we first came I assumed the worst intentions for all the Spanish Peoples apparent lack of basic courtesies.
I now have decided that it is not that they are rude, or even inconsiderate...they just have absolutely no IMAGINATION. They can't imagine that there might be a car coming round the bend in the opposite direction while they are overtaking. They can't imagine that they are holding you up while they park in the middle of the road to converse. They can't imagine that by parking their car so close that you wont be able to get your shopping into it. They definitely can't imagine that you chose that remote piece of beach because you wanted solitude...etc etc. I think they'd be mortified if they thought they'd caused offence. That's my theory anyway and it keeps me sane

YOUR imagination is very considerate in its thinking I shouldn't imagine that when they cause an accident /damage or injury that they imagine for one minute it could possible have been their fault at all.

We were just talking at the weekend about campsites and why when you choose a solitary spot in an empty or near empty camp site does someone want to pitch their tent with their guy ropes nearly crossing yours or park their caravan/camper so close you could hand them a cup of sugar ?

People are strange the world over I think

I've just returned from a trip to the UK that has reminded me how bad (in different ways) that English drivers are! The M25 is like a massive rolling roadblock, where drivers just pick a lane and then drive for miles and miles in that lane, irrespective of whether they're overtaking.....and when was the last time you saw road rage in Spain?

No - let's be thankful for the little idiosycrancies of Spanish drivers and remember that in most cases they are related to their culture and more laid-back lifestyle, which was the reason we moved here in the first place, wasn't it?

Thing is Val, many of them weren't taught to drive and got their licences years ago before the regs were tightened up.

The UK causes road hold ups and frustrated driving simply by applying speed silly speed restrictions on the M25.

Spanish road rage almost every time I am out in car (passenger)

Recently a female who cut out of empty lane to be infront then slowed down making us brake and have to overtake her, all sorts of hand and mouth signals from her. a while back by idiot who hit us on the bike when we were in correct lane he was to the left of us and wanted to, and went right. It was of course okay as he had his indicator on ( had been on all the way along the street but indicting left )

Idiot who was pottering along no bother, we overtakeand return to lane, he comes flying past and yes you guessed braked right in front of us and slowed down we overtake again this carried on all the way till we turn off for marina. No logic whats so ever.

Another idiot the same day right up our tail all the way along a no overtaking, 90 speed limit, clear road speed camera he flies past with hand signals obviously annoyed we stuck the limit

The list could go on and on.

What kind of culture leads to such strange driving and attitude to other raod users ? The idiosyncratic behaviour of the spanish drivers is a mystery to me. I really do wonder just what they are taught are drivng school. They are no longer on their horse/donkey and the road is not all theirs, It HAS been a long time since it was that way.

I have found the perfect solution to my road rage feelings - I just let my wife drive while I navigate. That and lots of patience!

Aye well that and the fact so many cannot apparently read accounts for some of it.

I think it is funny with the Velez Malaga Tram....it's always getting hit by drivers who think it will take avoiding action and swerve to miss them

    Lack of Imagination...again!
