"Haven't they thought of making pavements?"

Trouble is that can have a meaning other than that with which we are familiar. Tell an American to walk on the pavement and he will walk in the road, but we are talking in this instance about Americans! Czechs, I can't vouch for.

Pavements????? We lived in a large town/small village about six miles from the centre of Prague. Most side roads were not paved and after the spring thaw were just seas of mud so to speak of pavements.......
And people do occasionally need to cross from one side of the road to the other.
Our water really was mineral water....it was pumped electrically from our well.
Most people who visit the CR rarely go outside of Prague so are unaware of conditions away from the capital.

I enjoyed my stay in Prague, we were there for my husband work. We were taken out for a meal to a famous place with cartoon pictures around.
Just a country girl looking for a new life

Oh yes, it's a beautiful city and I miss it. I've been visiting Prague since I was a student in 1969 and was excited when I eventuaslly went to live there. I shall go back to see friends in spring.
There are so many famous pubs and restaurants, can't place the one you described.
But as I found out, visiting a place, even frequently, is one thing and living there for years quite another.
