Hi All
Can anyone recommend a UK based car insurance company that will insure me in Spain when I move out permanently?
My current insurer will only cover me for my first month in Spain so I have to look for a new policy.
Thanks alot
Howard

Why do you want a uk based insurance company when your moving to Spain nothing wrong with insurance companys here in Spain even for a UK reg car it,s not a problem. I drove down from UK 9 years ago with Saga insurance in UK for 6 months then insured with Ibex who are based in Gib search the net for quotes for expat insurance
OK thanks. The reason is that I want the insurance to cover me in both countries without restriction as I'll be staying for lengthy periods in both UK and Spain and don't want to be caught out by being uninsured having overstayed in either.
SAGA are for the over 50's are they not? I am not yet there!
How about "Linea Directa" here in Spain, they are Direct Line in England and are hard to beat price wise ( and they Specialise in the Ex-Pat market with English speaking operators).
I use balumba.es, one of the cheapest options, youŽll find someone that speaks english over there
When I came to Spain they said that I couldn't get Spanish Insurance unless I re- registered it onto Spanish Plates. Why not change or re-register it.
I now have a Spanish registered car and am insured by Linea Direct. They provide a green card each year which allows me to drive anywhere in the EC.
The number for the English operator at Linea Direct is 902 325 325 They are very good and will give you the advice you need

Will Howard simply not have the same problem then, but in reverse ?
A green card is no longer issued as a legally registered EU vehicle that has insurance, must have 3rd party cover anywhere in the EU provided by the insurer. The only issue is the amount of time you are allowed cover for on a visit to another EU State.
As there are no borders for Spain/France/Germany etc, it is difficult for an insurer to dispute your word, not so in the case of the UK/Ireland.
So if there is a Spanish Insurance Company that will allow for extended stays in another EU state (in this case the UK) giving the same level of cover as you are insured for here, then the re-registration onto Spanish plates would indeed be a good idea.
