I will need to fill up form, give my passport and proof my place of stay in barcelona? Can it be a rented house or apartment? Whats the way to get N.I.E. for my self and then for my husband? Is it real that he can get citizenship as Peru was spanish colonia in 2 years of his stay and work in spain? Can you please someone explain me? Actually he is living 8 years in Rome and have allowence to work in Eu countries. but the point is that Spain and Luxembours didnt addopt that law yet so he is not able to work there as for example he could in hungary or germany or whatever other EU countries. can u someone pls clear that to me? Do we need to have a job already if we wanna apply for N.I.E. or anyone who will be our friend for example and we cna register our adress in police in their home? whats the way pls. thanks a lot for your answer and advices Tina

      Spanish Property 2012

      Hi Tina & Everyone else!

I have come across the forum and could not resist myself to join & be part of it. It looks brilliant. I work as an immigration consultant and will try to answer Tina’s question.

Tina, you don’t need to be working in Spain order to request a NIE Number. In fact you don’t even need to be physically in the country in order to request it, providing you name a legal representative to do it in your name. With regards to the procedure, you will need to fill out the form and take it to your nearest National Police station together with your passport. Also remember to take with you copies of all the documents. You can provide the address of a rented property or in the case of not having a property yet, the address of your legal representative taking care of the process.

As for your husband, as he is a non EU citizen, as well as the documentation stated previously, he will need to provide evidence as to why he needs the NIE number. This can be in the form of: a property or vehicle purchase contract, evidence that he is forming a company or a letter from the bank indicating that they need a NIE number in order to open his bank account. Very important: he will need to carry out this procedure before he extends his legal three month stay.

If you are planning to reside in Spain, you are going to need to request a ‘Certificado de Registro como Residente Comunitario’ for yourself. Once you have this document you will need request your husband’s residence permit. As soon as your husband has obtained his residence permit, he will be able to work and also request Spanish citizenship, after having resided legally in Spain for two years.

I hope this info is useful & my warmest welcome to Spain!
