Thumbs up Banks in Spain! Good ones or bad! Your opinion please

Banks, now theres a subject in these times of crisis. Which bank do you recommend. Which bank has helped you and which bank has let you down.
As for me the sooner that I can get away from BANKINTER the better, when times where good they where ok, now times are bad they are a diasaster. They charge for letters, they charge for texts to you , they charge for letters to you. They wont extend my mortgage, even though I asked before the crisis. They wont let me pay interest only for one year through the bad patch. And how much is my mortgage a measly 60k on a property of 600k.
And guess what I was an estate agent who took nearly 80 clients to open accounts with bankinter and this is how they repay. Sod them!
    Now the good banks.
I have had nothing but help, assistence encouragement from the CAM bank. They have extended my mortgage , let me pay interest only, helped me find clients for my new business, advertised for me in my local branch. There internet banking is the easiest in Spain to use. Great bank especally my brach in Los Balconies in Torrevieja. Thanks for everything girls.

We are with Sol Bank part of Sabadell Atlantico but tend to use the Sabadell Atlantico branch in San Pedro del Pinatar.....no complaints from us....they have always been great.

Their online banking facilities are well thought out and very easy to use.

I use Banco Halifax (Playa Flamenca Branch). I can't fault their helpfulness - though because I mostly Internet bank, I don't see them as often as I would like. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

I too have had excellent treatment from CAM and their online banking system is excellent. I rarely visit a branch unless it is to withdraw cash and regularly transfer money into my account electronically from UK, pay bills by d/debit, etc.

My only 'beef' is that they still levy bank charges, whereas most UK banks now operate current accounts free - although I'm not sure for how much longer. They will want to recover all the money they lost last year somehow through their own mismanagement, so why not screw their customers?!

Eljefe... We have been with Solbank for 7 years without any complaint. We opened accounts at Bankinter and BBVA but found the charges excessive. There are Solbank branches in Torrevieja, Ciudad Quesada, Punta Prima and just off N332 at Guardamar. Alas not yet established in San Miguel. They are part of the Banco Sabadell Atlantico group (who have branches in most Spanish Towns.) and were formed mainly for British and German residents and tourists. All their staff speak English as well as Spanish. In my branch, Quesada two of the staff are English.

CD you speak great Spanish so you should try Sabadell Atlantico they are just as good but their English may at times be lacking.....but for you and your wife that would be no barrier.... As mentioned above we too started with Sol but for convenience we generally tend to use Sabadell Atlantico

We also get a great deal at Mafres through the bank

Jaz, There are no Banco Sabadell Atlantico branches near me. The only ones I know are in Orihuela City or Elche. I have my house insurance with Mapre through Solbank. Although our account is with Solbank, we can use Sabadell without incurring charges.

You sure can (and we do in S.P. ). For us what is also great is the fact that there is a Sabadell in London

We use Caja Rural de Granada. First class, old fashioned, bank, they speak a little English and have an English Website. We find their On-line banking works well.

    Welcome to Caja Rural. Granada

Concur with Michael, Banco Halifax, especially if you have an acct. with them in the UK. Free money transfers etc and each branch manager will speak English as they all do an intense training course in english at their HQ in Mid Sussex.
