Default Hello - Buying villa this year moving out 2 years

    Newbie!
Hi all. I am currently looking for a 4 bed villa ready for us to relocate.

Currently live in sunny Sheffield, we will be moving in a couple of years when my eldest goes to university. We (Glenn & Ann-Marie) will then be bringing with us our youngest Alfie who will then be 12 so we will have to be near a private International school for him.

Fortunate enough that we have retired at a relatively young age so there will be no work or financial issues but we are sooooo ready for a change in lifestyle.

We are looking for somewhere with a decent mixture of nationalities, and unlike many people on these forums we are not trying to get away from Brits, just our daily grind over here. Our priority will be an area where there are plenty of children for my son to make friends with, so almost certainly an expat community will help with this. We dont want to be too far inland but we dont want to be anywhere that attracts Stag or hen parties if you know what I mean!

We are very sociable, I love my golf and the wife her coffee and gossip, so a community feeling with a focal meeting area, (such as square, plaza, club, bars, restaurants, golf etc) is a must. We love other peoples company!

After holidays and property trips we have put an offer in for a large villa in Villamartin, as this seems to tick a lot of the boxes. This is currently in the process of repossession by the bank so nothing will happen soon and we are still looking just in case.

We are considering apart from Villamartin Ciudad Quesada & the Javier region on the CB as well as Callahonda and Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. I am sure there are many places we do not know of yet so please enlighten us so we can check them out

Hi Glenn and Ann-Marie, we are Steve & Jill.
We too are moving out to Spain, in October 2012. We are going to rent for a year whilst we look for a place to buy at our leisure.
We have done a week's reccy this year in Norther Costa Blanca and have 3 x two weeks planned for other areas in Costa Blanca and Murcia.
Everyone on this forum is very friendly and I am sure that you will be getting lots of ideas of where to buy.
We are constantly scanning the internet property sights to see what there is out there and also to keep an eye on prices. Our favourites are Spanish property for sale: Find 100,000 Spanish properties for sale and orangesandlemons.com (mainly Javea & Denia).
There is also a good number of properties listed on Find overseas property for sale.
Pm me if you need more to look at. We would also be interested in how your plans are going as we must both be at similar stages.

    Kindest regards

    Steve & Jill

    Hi Glenn and Ann-Marie

We live inland in a mainly Spanish town. Although there are quite a few expats in our area, the majority livr in the "campo" outside town.

Our neighbours are all Spanish and we have many Spanish friends, however we started a monthly English book swap and through this we have made many British friends too. Tuesday, which is market day, is now a regular coffee (or caņa!) morning with other expats. We are both retired, but most days we are very busy and meet both Spanish and British friends for coffee, tapas, concerts, fiestas etc

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you are sociable, and go out of your way to meet people, you will enjoy yourself wherever you live.

My advice would be to learn Spanish (if you don't already speak it) over the next two years, as it will give you the opportunity to make friends of all nationalities when you move here.

    Good luck!

    Sue & John

Chap, I think that there is a very good international school in San Miguel de Salinas..
send a personal message to Eljefe, He lives there and may be able to assist. It's not too far from Villamartin.
