Default We are moving to Spain in 2012!!!

    Hello everyone
plans are well underway for our move to Spain in October 2012.

Jill and I will retire fully then and will be moving to Spain permanently. We intend to rent for a year to give us plenty of time to tour the area and find a property to buy.

We are initially interested in northern Costa Blanca sort of from Calpe to Ghandia. We have had a quick visit this May and like the look of the area having mainly holidayed in the Costa del Sol. We are planning a few more longer visits to really investigate the infrastructure and look at the property in more detail.

We have been doing lots of research and still have lots to learn so anyone who has been there and done that please give us your advise.

The whole area of taxation in Spain is very bewildering especially the inheritance tax, so we could do with some recommendations for a tax advisor who does the job without costing an arm and a leg. We have had a quote from Blevin Franks for £850.00 + VAT for a preliminary report without any specific tax advice. We declined their kind offer.

Anyway we will be asking lots of questions on this forum and hopefully will receive lots of help and encouragement.

    kindest regards

    Steve & Jill

Hello Guys, welcome to the forum. I would expect if you asked specific questions on what you are concerned about, and I am sure the answers will flow.
There are always ways around inheritance taxes if you know how!

    Hi Steve & Jill

Welcome from us too. It sounds as if you are already asking the right questions and thinking through things before you move. Renting is the best idea, to make sure that the area is right for you before you consider buying.

One issue you need to think about is healthcare. Sorry to be personal, Jill, but how old will you be when you move here? If you are in receipt of a state pension, you will be entitled to free healthcare and so will Steve as your "dependent". You will both be covered for your first two years anyway, having worked in another EU country. However it is something you need to think about.

    Good luck.

Sue, I think you frightened Jill off by asking her age!!!! If neither are of state pensionable age, they have a choice of paying into the National Health system or taking private insurance..I did the latter with Caser. It may be a bit more expensive, but there is no waiting for consultants or operations, and worth the extra. When I reached 65, I cancelled it, having been checked out for everything and in the operating theatre 3 times..

Don't worry, Steve and Jill are still talking to me (they sent me a PM). No doubt they will post on here again when they have another question. Jill of course is a LOT younger than you and me CD, in case you are wondering!!!

So are the majority of the Worlds population. The positive is that we have memories, stretching back before they were born.

SteveSainty. You are a new member and started this thread. The forum is useful for asking serious questions as you did, but it's also an extended family. We like to have a laugh sometimes, so why not join in the banter. The more posts there are, the more will want to join. This offer is also extended to those who regularly look in, but for the sake of 9 euros a year aren't able to contribute. There are other forums for anyone living in or interested in Spain, but none are so well laid out and easy to follow as Absolute Spain.

    Spanish Property 2012

Steve.. You say you want to make visits to look at different areas. My apartment in Torrevieja is ideal for a couple, and would give you the opportunity to have a look at the Southern Costa Blanca and inland Alicante as well as the North of Murcia Province, (Which I am sure Jaz will recommend) It's also only 40 minutes from Alicante or Murcia airports.
