Default Travelling to Spain In August

    Hi All,

Looking for some ideas for a road trip around Spain.

Wife and I have so far only booked flights (into Valencia 04/08 and out of Madrid 18/08). The idea is to travel by road along the east cost and then along the South. Apart from a 3-day visit to Barcelona, our knowledge of Spain is poor. We're flying in from the UK.

Looking for help in planning our road trip and any advice on places of interest, hotels etc. Some beach time goes without saying but do want to see some of the real Spain and its history. Don't know the east very well (but will probably spend a couple of days in Valencia) but in the South we'd like to Spend some time in Seville and Cadiz. Guess we have a bit of a drive from the South back to Madrid (where we plan to spend 2-3 full days) so any thoughts on the route back to Madrid would be appreciated.

I'm sure we can work things out ourselves, but would welcome any thoughts from those who know the country far better than we do.

    many thanks.

Sounds like good fun! My daughter and her husband did a road trip in America and Vicky even did some of the driving (she's only recently passed her driving test after years of lessons!) We live in Jumilla, which is a couple of hours south of Valencia and about one hour inland from Alicante. If it's not too far off the beaten track for you, we would be happy to show you around the town (no charge!) We have lots of fiestas during August, though not sure whether they will be after you visit this area or not. Hope it's OK to give a link to my blog, Greg? This gives information on Jumilla, photos etc: Jumilla Journal

I would suggest looking at ViaMichelin: Mapas, rutas, carreteras, distancias, callejero, como llegar, reservas, guías, viajes for information on routes and driving times. Cordoba is definitely worth a visit and isn't too far from Sevilla. We also enjoyed Toledo, though I wouldn't fancy driving a car in the centre of the city!

Hope you have a great time, and please post on here after you get back to tell us all about it.

Some places I suggest you visit along the way:

    Sitges, Barcelona

    Museu de les Ciencies, Valencia

    Nerja

    Tarifa

On your way up to Madrid check out Cuenca

Enjoy the ride and be safe! Don't let yourself be tricked by something like this.

While in the South park up and walk across the causeway to spend a few hours in Gibraltar. On the way to Madrid, Granada and Cordoba Historic parts as well as Toledo and Avila are worth a visit.

    Spanish Property 2012

    Hello there!

What beautiful picutures above! And what a nice trip to take... So far, nobody else has mentionned El Puerto de Santa Maria, a gorgeous seaside town, on the Costa de la Luz coastline and just 55 minutes from Morrocco by boat! Why not take a trip there too?! El Puerto has stunning beaches, delicious restaurants and a friendly population.

Safe journey and enjoy, wherever you decide to go!
