Have a great trip guys. Don't go for the obvious resturants, always go one street back from the main road.
Thanks, Eljefe
We have learnt that lesson in places like Madrid and Marbella! You go to the main plaza, look at the restaurants, gulp at the prices, and then decide to wander off the beaten track. There you find a lovely restaurant, far cheaper and also far friendlier because it isn't full of tourists, just the locals. We have done a bit of research online, just in case we get stuck, but hopefully we will stumble across somewhere good.

I used to rent an apartment in Cordoba..There is not much to see outside the walled old part, Most of the best restaurants are in the streets surrounding the Mosque (Mesquita)
The problem is that those directly outside the Mesquita are authentic, but very touristy.
Take a walk along the cobbled streets, or across the river, and you will find quieter and cheaper bar/restaurants.
If you are driving, park on the opposite river bank. Parking is virtually non existant nearer the ancient part.

Thanks, CD. We're not driving: we are flying from Alicante to Sevilla, where we are spending Wednesday night, then taking the early morning train to Córdoba.
As we only have the one day there, we will head for the Mezquita first. I don't know how long it will take us to look around, but guess it will be a couple of hours. I have marked a couple of places on the map that look to be within easy walking distance of the Mezquita, but not on its doorstep!
I remember once when we were in Paris and decided to try somewhere new that we had seen in our guide book (we know a few places but wanted to go to somewhere different). It wasn't until we ordered our meal that we spotted lots of other tourists clutching the same guide book! Having said that, the food was good and the prices were very reasonable.
