Default Los Alcazares Holiday in the new year-Advice Please

    Hi All

Its my first post so hi to everyone.

We have holidayed a number of times in Spain, Los Alcazares, Moraira, Calpe, Mojacar and Elvira.

We have looked at buying but have decided to rent when we retire to Spain (6-9 months) per year in 6 years time.

    Anyway back to my questions..........

We are planning to visit Los Alcazares for a week just after Christmas (30th Dec to 6 Jan). We have visited Los Alcazares a number of times and love it but only stayed during the summer and October school half term periods. We also stayed on La Manga resort for Feb half term but didnt visit Los Alcazares on that occasion.

Our son has gone to Uni and holidays with the parents are a thing of the past I'm afraid. So its just me and my wife going this time.

My questions are what will be open in Los Alcazares during this period will it be a ghost town ? I dont think it will as its a town with a resident population.

Also the bank holidays, is it just Jan 1st or does it extend further.

Do the spanish celebrate the new year as in the UK

    Any advice gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Three Kings day, 6th. January is also a public holiday. You say you are coming on the 30th. which is a weds., the 1st. is on Friday, most Spaniards will take Thursday,31st. as a 'Puente' ( bridge ) and be on holiday from the Weds. until the Monday. Yet more still will also have the Monday and Tuesday as hols. as Weds is 'día de los Reyes',so you could find that many businesses are shut for the whole week you are proposing to come.
Yes, the Spanish celebrate the New year the same as the U.K. or better, thetv programme on La1 goes on all night! I hope this helps.

    Hi Arash.
Are you asking those who cannot speak fluent Spanish have trouble connecting with the Spanish ?
If so, yes it is not easy but we continue to try as it will be rewarding in the end.

Thank you for helpful reply, when you say businesses do you mean banks, etc would that apply to restaurants, bars, supermarkets which we would most likely visit

Don't worry he's talking about another post he did a few days ago.

With regard to the bars and restaurants, their should be no problem and the big supermarkets the same, except new years eve and the night before 3 Kings will be early closing. The banks should be open but where you have a lot of offices of the same Bank close together, some will be shut with notices directing you to the ones that are open, but you will always be able to access the cash machines.
