I am trying to get a list of Fiesta dates for 2009 for as many villages near to the south of Spain as I can. I realise that there are many fiestas but I think it would be useful for people to know when a particular village is closed for a week due to a fiesta. Or if they want to stay drunk for 6 months. I already have the main national holidays listed and their meanings on my calendar page. Can anyone help please? |

It is not easy to find details of all the fiestas, even for those of us who live here. They are not organised for tourists but for the entertainment of the locals. All I can say is that, if you are in Spain between May and Sept. and particularly in August, there will always be something happening within a 20 mile radius of you. Get the local English language newspapers and log on to the individual town hall web sites. Here is one site that has a few details (A Costa Blanca guide - Spain - news, advice, tourist info, property) but don't expect much this far in advance - the 'festers' (the 18 year olds who organise the events in each town/village) have not been initiated yet and so dates will be very sketchy.
Most towns will have bull running, live music in the town square and watch out also for Moors & Christians festivals. |

Yes, I agree, it's very difficult to find out about events in Spain - most of the local authority websites are woeful.
A good source of information that I find useful is fiestas.net |

Hi Solsearch, I took a quick look at the fiestas.net url but found it to be quite restrictive for Murica. In our province we are quite lucky because the ayuntamiento websites are getting much better. Once upon a time they were very out of date, more recently they are becoming quite informative ;-)

Most towns/villages will have a parade on Tuesday evening, 6th Jan, with the three kings throwing sweets to the children. Last year ours were on Camels...depends if there is a circus in the area. worth checking out..
