Do spanish kids not play in the sand ? does dog poo and general rubbish have a part to play in that I wonder ?

Another thing I notice on my return from UK is that I seldom, if ever, hear the neighbours kids laughing kids around here when out playing seem to shout and scream but no laughing ...
Therein lies a spread of culture - but I do think the differences you highlight are almost regional as opposed to national. My experiences have seen that in general coastal towns in both countries see kids who are much more active when they are out and about...probably because there's much more to do. Stick them in the city and you'll see an entirely different dynamic!

My experiences: Got pushed off one of those jetties that they used to wheel out into the water so that one could board small boats for a trip round the bay, I came up underneath and was fished out half drowned. (Yeah OK it was a pity it was only 'half'). A few years later the beach and the water was like a sewer with t*rds and condoms etc floating in it (washed down from London).

You will not be surprised to know that I don't do beaches!

    You could well be right.
When I started diving in the UK I had always assumed that it would be temming with life below the waves, well the reality was it was dead and covered in polution inshore (2 miles out)
Needless to say I then only dived on the wrecks in deep water where you would see some life (and brass )

Whilst I enjoy some of the beauty inland I love being by the beach. We are lucky enough to have a contrast of Blue Flag beaches and wild beaches backing onto nature reserves.....there is nothing more refreshing than an early morning walk along the beach

I used to enjoy taking my dog on to the beach out of season...(I always made sure he did his woopsy before going on.) He loved running in the soft sand, until one morning he was feeling unwell. I took him to the vet who examined him and found he had been eating sand....No more beaches for him.

Quite right too, eating sandwiches on the beach is not the best diet for a pooch!

I know I'm digressing here but are you a Frank Spencer fan? .....It's just that "woopsy" was a typical FS word
