I haven't seen this particular book, but I always find the Rough Guides very useful. They are well written and factually correct, although they can be very dismissive of some of the more popular resorts (perhaps even a bit snobbish towards them?)

SHHHHHHHH I am going to be looking for that when I can get out again, so if any does find it in my area (Sevilla) or the Lonely Planet Guide for Andalucia

What sort of resorts do you mean?

Resorts like Torremolinos and Benidorm. Many guidebooks seem to be very condescending towards places like these, despite the fact that many holidaymakers get a lot of enjoyment from them.

I got my husband The Rough Guide to Andaluciá and The Lonely Planet Guide to Spain so he can plan our retirement trips around this beautiful region/country. Both were bought/brought from by friend in UK though as I had no time to go hunting in Sevilla for them with our various injuries and dog problems.

Has anybody read the Rough Guide to Spain ?

I have a copy of the rough guide to Spain in front of me.. It is great for those who live here, or have time to travel around. It is not so good for those on package holidays (the majority of Brits who visit Spain). I agree entirely with Solsearch. I live near the coast in the South of Alicante. It does tend to belittle places like Benidorm. I go there often and it is not all about English breakfasts and Disco bars, but it also a favourite holiday resort of the Spanish, which it hardly mentions.

The area along the coast from Alicante South to Murcia, is one of the areas most populated by British ex pats. Many visitors from Britain stay in the area around Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja and the Orihuela Costa. None of these places rate a mention in the book. Only Elche and Orihuela City are mentioned. which is disapointing.
I bought the book prior to coming to Spain, mainly to know about that area.

I admit my copy is not the latest, so I wonder if the later versions give more information for holiday makers or those coming to live in this area.
ValL mentions that she has the rough guide to Andalucia. I'm wondering if there is one specifically for the Communidad de Valencia which may give
    more information on this area.

CD I´m afraid I have to disagree, none of the above are in Murica, also I would say San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcazares, Santiago de Ribera etc are heavily populated with Spanish (yes there are ex pats but they are in the minority

Now back to the guide.....for us, we would love a guide that provides information on hidden treasures, white wash villages, quaint towns still adopting traditional methods etc..... I´m not familiar with this guide but may check it out

Jaz I'm not sure what you are disagreeing about. I was referring to Alicante province, not Murcia....I meant from Alicante City to the Murcia border... San Pedro del Pinatar and Santiago de Ribera are mentioned, but they are in Murcia, not the area I was writing about..Pilar de Horadada, near San Pedro, but on the Alicante side is not mentioned.
