Hello Vail !!!!

Hi Diego I have done several google searches and many include Sevilla as in the area known as Costa de La Luz others do not, guess it is another 'grey area' that depends to whom you are talking.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member in the forum, I'm half Spanish so any doubt about Spain I`ll be pleased to answer it or looking for the answer with my family.
My favourite areas to go on Holidays are Navarra Pyrenees (north) if you are looking mountains and nice views and of course Valencia Region, the Mediterranean Coast of Spain. There are many interesting things to see in Valencia (City) there are many funnny activities to do such as prepare your own paella outdoor and eat it, visiting 'The Tomatina' which is a tomato war in summer, the Fallas (great painted monuments representing politicians, famous people, actors, Which they burn on 19th March to welcome the Spring time purifying all the bad things of the year through fire. And the Costa Blanca (Alicante) in areas such as Moraira Javea, Calpe, Altea......Its a lovely place to visit enjoying sandy beaches, nice food and tapas, nice sangria....and nice people. These are my favourites but there are many other nice places to visit such as Cantabria, Asturias, Burgos.... If you need advise getting services in Valencia (and rest of the country) I have a friend which always helps me, specially with the accommodation because she has an incoming company-travel agency there and gets nice rates. Spain is always a good option for going on holidays¡¡¡ Nice to meet you spain lovers¡¡¡¡¡ |

Sevilla hasn't got a beach, has a river and the beach area where Sevillans usually go is Costa de la Luz which is Cadiz Gulf in the South-West area of Andalusia (Huelva, Cadiz...to Tarifa).

I have lived near Sevilla for 4 years and know it has no beach, the Spanish I know all head for is at Matalascañas. The road there is heaving with traffic most weekends as we go to Mazagon.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner Diego - we have had some snow in the south of england but we arrived in Chiclana last night to find our garden all frost damaged, I am so sad. Just hope it will recover when it warms up again but never thought I would have to worry about such an obviously severe frost here....
Anyway, lovely sunny day today. Going to admire the horses at the Romeria San Sebastian in Conil/El Colorado tomorrow - although we aren't going to do the picnic/BBQ as its so muddy under foot at the moment. Was fun last year. Can't wait for the Feria del Caballo in Jerez in May - I plan to be here for about three weeks at that time and will be taking a friend to the Feria and round Jerez. |

Welcome to Spain spainnewbie,
Barcelona and Sevilla are indeed "must". They are both very interesting, very Spanish, but in their own way. They are very different from each other, as are Catalonia and Andalusia. Also the above mentioned Marina Alta/Marina Baixa area in Costa Blanca is one of my favourites. Little towns like Denia, Javea, Moraira, Calpe and Altea are typically Spanish and typically Valencian. To me, it is the most beautiful part of Costa Blanca and the east coast. (I lived in Denia for some 10 years.) The northern coast is even more beautiful. This part of Spain is famous for its food, restaurants, wines and asturian cider. Santander, Gijón and Oviedo are my favourite towns. Covadonga in Asturias is interesting in many ways, and, Llanes (Asturias) is the most charming little town on the seaside. National Park of Picos de Europa is one of the main attractions in Asturias and Cantabria. Have a nice trip! |

Hello!! Sorry for being missing for such a long time! I was really busy with work during these weeks...
Vail, you are totally right about those grey areas. In fact, names such as "Costa del Sol", "Costa Brava", etc, are quite recent ( Costa Brava dates from 1900 ) and were created in a quite artificial way, mainly thinking on touristic purposes... It´s like "Cote d´Azur" in France...a poetic name created during the XIX century, as more and more people were starting to go to the beach during summers... How are your dogs going? I remember you mentioned that one of them was sick... Floriana, don´t worry about taking a long time to answer, as you can see, you are not the only one Un abrazo for you two, and for the rest of the forum members Diego |
