Exclamation Madrid plane crash shocking or what!!!

What a huge shock I got when reading the news the other day...

"The death toll after a Madrid plane crash has risen to 153, a Spanish government minister tells CNN+. The plane carrying more than 170 people went off the runway at Barajas Airport. The crash during takeoff reportedly followed an explosion on the budget airline jet, sending up a plume of smoke visible from miles away."

What a disaster... And this in 2008... Who would have thought that something like this could happen to Spanair??? Is Spanair slacking or do you think it was an isolated incident? I have travelled a lot around Spain and mostly fly with Spanair so I rather worried...

Hey yaybunny, I can understand how this shocks you. It has been quite hard on myself and friends aswelll since travelling around Spain and getting to know Spain is so much easier if you can just hop onto a plane.

Nevertheless, I do believe this was an isolated incident. In any case, statistically speaking you know what they say, flying is less dangerous than driving a car. So looking at it that way, its best to be positive!

Shocking, yes! We would like to express our sincere condolences to the victims.

@peterinspain: The statistics you mention are surely spoken about a lot, but have you heard about the other plane crash in Kurzigstan? And the emergency landing Ryanair made in France recently?

That is very disturbing... And makes one wonder, is it a lack of professionalism? Slacking personell? Lazy mechanics? Or....

.....or the budget airlines trying to cut corners and save money?

I use the cheapest carrier every time - those of us who live out here and want to visit the UK several times a year have to - but I wonder if we are not creating a problem that we will later regret? My son and daughter-in-law are here for a holiday at the moment and flew BA for under £200 return withno extras fro baggage, priority boarding, reserved seats and they even got free drinks and a sandwich during the flight! Ahhh - remember those heady days?
