    Default Telefonica's answering service.

Is it possible to connect remotely to listen to one's messages stored on Telefonica's answering service?

    Default If not.....

...how can the service be switched off so that I can use my own machine which can be remotely operated?

I used to use Telefonica. I now have an independant phone with answer service but still check Telefonica by lifting phone and leave it until the dial tone finishes and then all messages on Tfc are then played over!!

I don´t use telefonica anymore (thank god!) but the answering service that you have is an extra that you pay for - it will be itemised in your bill. It used to be, I think, 17 euros a month rental for the full line with caller display and answering service but you can also change to a basic service which is just the line for about 12 euros a month You can then use your own answering machine. You also pay a rental fee for the Telefonica domo phone - you could cancel that and get your own one. Funnily enough, Telefonica don´t tell people that!

Hi hippyshake, actuall if you go onto their web site you can go to: Comparativa de productos de Líneas y Teléfonos and see the options are 'Do you want a line + calls', 'Do you want a line' or 'Do you want a phone'. Selecting the ''Do you want a line'' option and you will see there are prices for a phone and rental as optional when selecting a contract that is not basic, so on a basic contract there is no option to not rent the phone (At least that is what I understand from the web site), BTW, this is all in Castellano!!! as we are in Spain of course!

BTW, yes the answer service from Telefonica is now an extra cost, the suplimentry services from TF are as per their web site:

Servicio contestador en red. (Answer service)
    Desvío de Llamadas. (Call divert)
Llamada en Espera. (Call waiting service)
Servicio No Molesten. (Do not disturb service)
Servicio Identificación de Llamadas. (Id caller service)

There are actually many many more services that can be added if you delve deeper into the information on the TF web site, some free others not.

BTW, currently there is no set up charge for new phone installations. (Not that I am trying to sel their services because that I am not!).

    HTH
