Default Ryanair cuts flight out of Stanstead/What's your take on how will spain be impacted?

    Hi Folks

I read this on the BBC website earlier today.....it appears "old sleezy" is having to make cuts just like the other carriers

"Budget airline Ryanair has announced a reduction in its services at Stansted Airport, blaming higher charges.

Ryanair will reduce the number of aircraft it runs at the airport by 40% in its winter schedule, and will cut the number of flights by 30%, it said.

But it will operate only four fewer planes than it did last winter.

The company said that Stansted was one of its most expensive bases, and added that an increase in air passenger duty tax was also a factor in its decision.

The airline operated 40 aircraft from Stansted in the summer, but said this would fall to 24 this winter.

Last winter, Ryanair also cut its Stansted fleet to 28 planes from 36 in the summer.

Stansted Airport's managing director, Stewart Wingate, said: "It is common practice for [Ryanair] to reduce frequency to various destinations during the winter season as they have done in previous years.

However, it should be noted that Ryanair recently announced it will launch a new service to Oslo from Stansted this October.

Ryanair said it would switch the 16 aircraft it was withdrawing from Stansted to other European bases. It expects to carry 2.5 million fewer passengers between October and March as a result of the latest move.

Ryanair also confirmed it had been in talks with European safety regulators about proposals to allow passengers to stand on its flights."

I guess another take could be by introducing "standing passengers" he will need fewer planes.......

They still won't pay their bills and still expect massive incentives to fly into some airports then try and 'blackmail' them by saying they will pull out, when they want to charge him more and still try to bleed every customer for evreything he can get. GGGRRRRR

I am sure it will affect a lot of people but I am also sure he don't give a damn.

We don't use them if at all avoidable which to date have been bar one flight. It will make no difference us.

O'leary might be a greedy git, but his "explained" reason for cutting the flights from Stanstead, a protest over air passenger duty is echoed by other airlines and tourism chiefs. I didn't realise the tax could be so high

I have no particular views on the money grubbing leprechaun, but I do agree that Gordon the Moron and the Darling Bud of Stupid have got it waaaaayyyy wrong this time and will probably waste more taxpayers money bailing out BA when their passengers refuse to pay their prices AND this tax.

If there should be a "green tax" why not put it on the Chelsea tractors...

A tax on travel really should be subject to closer examination as anything that restricts travel should be seen as suspect. The freedom for citizens to move is sacrosanct. If many are confined to their countries, their decision to stay swayed by high travel taxation, then that is a violation of human rights.

As I have said before, governments do not like their citizens moving around too freely. They love imposing restrictions, such as the so-called anti-terrorism laws. In the old Soviet Bloc and similar regimes travel was severely curtailed; even between cities and regions.

O'leary speaks with a forked tongue....because I found high taxes still being charged out of MJV by Ryanair despite his article.....unable to resist it I wrote to the slimey one's Customer Services Manager asking why.....I suspect it's a stealth charge levied by Ryanair which they are hiding under the "tax" banner....he should be more careful with what he writes.....

I posted the content of my email in another thread LOL....

To date no response from said Customer Services Manager......but then again Ryanair don't appear to understand Customer Services involves interacting with the customer

Actually I wonder if in Ryanair the Customer Services Manager has a dual role.....perhaps Credit Manager

Ryanair were flying to a lot of obscure places with half empty planes. They are unlikely to cut their profitable routes such as Malaga, Alicante, Murcia and Palma to name a few.

Taxes are not imposed by Ryanair. If you look at the prices, the tax to fly from UK to Spain is much higher than the tax to fly from Spain to UK. I have just been looking for October flights and can do a return trip for £5675 despite the outrageous English so called 'green' tax, and including Mr O'Leary's latest check in charge each way. Its still the most economical way for us to fly to and from Spain. But then we are fortunate and can pick and chose the cheapest flights and do not have to take any more than hand luggage. We insure independently on an annual basis and don't bother with priority boarding. For cheap flights you really can't beat Ryanair and the service is excellent with rare delays - we have taken return flights almost monthly for the past 3+ years and had only 3 delays (one due to lightening strike). All others went like clockwork and the cabin crew have been lovely. But then we appreciate being able to commute, we take careful note of airline information and don't get uppity if the slightest little thing is not as we think it should be.
