    Default Interesting People

I think of the many nice things about moving abroad are the interesting people you meet. Re-locating tends to sort out the men from the boys when it comes to pioneering spirit and get-up-and-go.
Yesterday I met a bubbly (Barbara Windsor category) lady. She is an adept sea diver; has a pilot's licence. She now prunes palm trees without much of a harness. Just climbing them, some 40' high and getting stuck in. Real lumberjack stuff.
Another lady I met: Marriage broke down years ago. Choice? Single mum with two kids living on sink estate on state benefits? Or do one and make something of herself; get a life? She now runs a number of successful businesses here in Spain, including a newspaper. Real British Empire types, bless them.

I don't know the term 'sink estate' what does that mean ? Do one as in runner ?

I met a very interesting man while I was travelling north by train in Scotland. He was heading for an isolated spot, as he did every year at that time, to count bugs ! Now that may sound boring but it was quite interesting, the results of his findings were used to idenitfy any changes in the local environment. He travelled complete with flask and sandwiches which he kindly offered to share.

I had another onesided chat with a vegan something who sat beside me on 3 hr plane journey once He told me all about how he became whatever it was he was, what he did not eat and why.......that was the longest 3 hours ever. It all washed over me about a quarter of the way YAWN

Over the years and all my travelling I spoken with some pretty weird and wonderful people.
Just a country girl looking for a new life

Now't so queer as folk as my mother used to say. A sink estate is one of those awful local authority or .. these days, housing association owned estates. We used to call them council estates.
Many were in fairness very good - well, I have lived on one or two so there you go. Many were and still are deplorable. Changing society I suppose. Yes, Val: "Do one' as in 'Do a runner!'.
