Thread: New Airport in Coasta del Azahar

Has anyone got the latest info on this new airport? I have been searching the web to try to find any recent information about it. Can anyone help?

Castellon Airport

Thank you for replying Val but I have already been on this site and, asin the past, it has very little additional information and none about when this is supposed to be open. I wonder if there is anywhere else i might try.

We were there a few weeks ago, there seemed to be a lot of contractors working on site, the runway is finished, the terminal building looks nearly finished the control tower has been started (this is viewing from the road outside), the new roads being built to service the airport from the A7 and N340 are nearing completion.

We heard that the first flights should start in June but the local English press suggest that this may not happen. After all Este es Espana.

The airport authorities seem to have made the same mistake as the building industry in assuming that the tourist bubble would never burst.. You only need to look at the expansion work being done at Alicante airport (who rely mainly on UK airlines), to wonder where they are going to get the extra flights from....Ryanair have cut flights to Valencia, and all Spanish airports are less busy than last year.

Thanks Ezza for your info. I live in Sant Mateu but work in UK... so i am anxious to know any information about the airport as it will make commuting so much easier. I know it was due to open in 2006 but as you say it is Spain!!!! Do let me know if you here anything.
