The many brilliant beaches here are filling up - I helped the process this afternoon. Sadly newspaper news stories will be punctuated by sad stories. Swimmers who get caught out; swimming too far or being caught up in an eddy or under-current. Another body brought ashore.
Armands and waterwings are a no-no for other than children. Too cumbersome and restrictive for starters. But why not a small flotation aid; a buoy? It wouldn't need to be bigger than a football and on say a 3 metre thin line.
This would allow the swimmer complete freedom but, if he or she got into difficulties a buoyancy aid that would suffice to stay afloat until help was at hand. Surely we cannot keep losing people in this way when a solution is so cheap and practical?

, but the line itself could well get a novice into trouble. Much better a buoyancy vest that "will" keep you afloat & is non restrictive (bye & large)
