    Default Road trip to UK

Okay our dog has got the piece of paper required for her UK passport so things can move on a little. We are hoping to go to UK in August/Sept for about a month. We have to be in High Wycombe area on the 24th August so rest of time can be eother side of then.

Who had done a road trip back with a dog in car ?

Which route did you take ? we have done Santander ferry the 18 hr one without the dog though. Kennel places are limited if available at all on ferries.

I am looking for all your thoughts so I can sit down and sort out trip to my bonnie Scotland

    Thank you in advance

    Hi Val.
My mate took his dog back to the UK a few years back......
I can remember that there was a time limit on the paperwork (rabies etc) and was quite short ?
In the end they sent the dog via plane (it was not that expensive) and drove back via Santander, picked the dog up on the way through (as far as I can remember)

Evening Brian, our dog is all up to date here and had the blood taken in Feb for rabies antibodies test, if they prove positive for antibodies (as she has) then they can travel to UK 6 months after date of test. The veterinary administered tick and flea treatment has to be done 48 hrs before entry to UK.

I know dogs are not allowed on the Bilbao to Portsmouth route..One of my neighbours who used to travel regularly with dogs aways went on the route from France that goes Cherbourg to Poole. I have just looked on the Brittany ferries home page, and the sea journey is much shorter than other routes.... .It's a bit more driving, but much less time at sea, and I think the dog can stay in the car... You will also have a much shorter drive from Poole than Plymouth.

Thanks CD the Bilbao crossing is too long me even if they allowed dogs I am not that much of a fan of the high seas. Need to find my (sea) legs

It looks like the long drive through France ( I have never been there yet other 1 night and half a day) The Cherbourg / Poole crossing may be good as we have family near Poole. I will go googling later.

Oopps meant to ask if you know of any dog friendly hotels etc to stay on the trip ?

Val If you look on the map, you will see that Cherburg is not far into France...Certainly not the day and a half you are thinking of. Sorry.I don't know of anydog friendly hotels, but you might not need one.

CD Map ! I am female most people think we cannot read them I have not looked at the map yet but can read it. We are not into non stop driving, the dog will need her comforts stops/exercise as well as me needing my coffee and my husband will need to stretch his long legs now and then. We can do home to Santander in a day but prefer to stop off near Burgos for the night and enjoy the scenery on the way to the ferry in the morning. Depending on timing we may be able to do it with just calls of nature and coffee stops .... now I need a coffee

    Have a good day.

You can take a dog on the ferry Plymouth to Santander it is a modern one only 4 years old they had designnated kennels for the dogs and you can go and see them and walk them on a lead around the top deck I don't know how much it costs but you have to book the dog in, we were nearly crushed by the rush of dog owners and dogs when we came over last year

Good afternoon gal, yes we know we can take her on the Santander ferry we have dne it a few times now and prefer it to a longer crossing there may be difficulty in getting place for her in August/Sept that being the middle of the holiday season. I am looking for all alternatives to flying including the tunnel.

Valo,,Of course I did'nt expect you to read the map...Just look where Cherbourg is, and you will get an idea how much further it is and how much shorter the crossing is.
