    Default Unknown plant

Bought a plant at the boot sale this morning. It was described as a "polygrama" which we have never heard of and neither have any of the online encyclopedias. It has leaves opposite and pinnate (i.e. similar to plumbago) and flowers (mauve and pea like but with a bearded stamen). Any ideas?

You could be right although my researches so far show the Polygala family to be very short (up to about 10cm high) and this one is about 15-18 inches.

The one I took a photo of in Arcos was a big bush in a tub at the side of street.
I will post it in my album. It was the only plant I could find that was like it. The Mediterranean Garden Plants book says 4x4 metres as size height and spread.

Confirming according to the Bible by Lorraine Cavanagh this is Milkwort or in Spanish, Polygala Myrtifolia. Grows 4mts by 4mts. Prune back lanky growth after flowering and can be tip pruned during growing season to promote bushier growth. Beware, prone to whitefly. Moderate summer watering, likes full sun or dappled shade. Comes from Polygalaceae family and originates from South Afrika. Spot on Val bet your pleased with your copy of the bible!!
