We are in the middle of town but have a load of pot plants and a planted bed on our terrace. Leory Merlin did a complete irrigation system for 49€ which has worked like a dream. Last years endlessly hot summer..

Dave, I have a couple of Bourganvilla in plastic pots. They have been there for years. they grow slowly and keep their shape, but need watering occasionaly to stop the coloured leaves drying out and dropping. You could try, but there are so many flowering Cactus around, that I think would be better in your situation, unless you are considering irrigation, which can work out very expensive if a leak occurs while you are away, as has happened to neighbours of ours.

    Looks lovely Andy.
I'd like a climbing plant that doesn't need sun, (tired ivy plants but they die )
Someone suggested pasiflora, anyone had any experience with it?

Yes the passion flower is a great climber and flowers all year around with very little water. We have about 10 different species of passion flower and they are a treat to grow with minimum maintenence. You have to keep them well cut back or else they can become very evasive.

They get a mind of their own and evade every effort you make to keep them cut back. You might even find that they invade every part of your growing area

I would love to put a few pot plants outside the windows to brighten the place up, however there was a local custom here that once a year the young men of the Village ran around the Streets and over the roofs, and to show their affection to the girls smashed the plant pots outside their house.

Unfortunately this day is still celebrated but now it is just out and out damage, they come round with poles and topple any plant pots in sight, allowing them to smash on the floor.

Those Spanish who remember, stay up and guard their prized displays, but many forget, and lose their lovely flowers. I never remember which day it is, so I rather not bother to start with. It's a shame!

It seems a little bit mean....if folks had spent a lot of money on pots and plants.....I'd be temped to power hose them if they came near mine

    Spanish Property 2012

Here, a few of us (Spanish and Brits) have pot plants on windowsills without too many problems and in our case, some of ours are they are accessible enough easy to even pick the flowers
