Default Cool Summer Markets - The Favourites

Hi all I'm Nikki and have finally made the move from middle England to Spain (Tarragona Region) to start a new life and hopefully a good business as a market trader

I'm 30 years old and already fed up with the miserabe people, weather and general rubbish that is the UK

I hope to make my living this year as a market trader selling some pretty nice things from all around the world, fed up of making money for other people who don't realy give a damn about you

So basically I am very interested to hear everyones opinions on their favourite great summer markets that run up and down the coast (or inland) on the Costa Dorada,

I am doing a lot of driving from place to place to research the best markets for my wares and also doing a lot of internet research but would be so so gratefull for any information anyone would like to share with me in my adventure and search for self employment

My products will be new arts & crafts from around the world

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I look forward to any replies

    Buenos Tardes

Hi Nikki, I don't know about the Costa Dorada but on Costa Calida we have several good markets nearby; my personal favourite is the San Pedro del Pinatar Market.........I love the local produce (it's so fresh), I also enjoy looking at the craft stalls full of jewellery, ornaments and paintings.

Wishing you all the best with your new venture

Hi Nikki, I have a ebay.es shop. One of the best sellers I had recently were Eygptian paintings on Papyrus, the spanish lapped them up, sold 20 in 2 weeks. Another fast seller I had was original oil paintings from the students of Greek art college, again sold 25 in less than 2 weeks. I hold quite a lot of stock if you need items.
Anyway good luck with your new venture. If you need any help or advice just ask , I did the markets a few years ago.

There are static markets, such as the night market in Torrevieja harbour, and in Guardamar del Segura stay open until the early hours of the morning. They specialize in the sort of articles I think you have in mind. Most markets travel with a different place for each day of the week. They have sections for fruit and veg, and clothes, shoes and bedding etc. You would need to visit to get an idea what they are like. Tarragona I believe is mainly Spanish, and I'm sure you get a lot of tourists in the summer months. In the winter you need to look at areas where Other nationalities live or visit such as Barcelona, the Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and to please Jaz The Costa Dorada.

There are great Once a year markets throught Spain. The biggest I have been to is in Cocentaina, Alicante. It takes over the whole town for a week, and has a medieval section. Unfortunately on the day we went, there was a heavy downpour, and we left earlier than we had intended.

Barcelona has some great markets too, especially at Christmas

    Hi

I am posting on behalf of somebody who posted on another forum (I will be good and not mention its name here!) Janet has sold books in markets in the UK, also via the internet, and is thinking of doing the same in Spain. Do you think she is going to be able to make a living selling books over here? Obviously she has her connections and knows the trade, she just doesn't know whether it will be viable over here. She is moving to the Nerja area in December - optimistically expecting the weather to be a lot better than in the UK!

Thanks for any advice that I can pass on to her.

I would say it all depends on whether the prices she expects to get for her books are realistic ;-))

My take would be if she has done her research and the books are reasonably priced then she could gain a lot of interest from the expat and tourist market who enjoy a read in English.

Another key thing would be that she needs to be located in a place where there is lots of passing trade and probably near a beach where folks like to chill out with a good book ;-)

Thanks, Jaz. I have asked her what she will be charging for crime novels, on the basis that we have just bought some from Amazon. To be quite honest she will probably find it hard to compete with Amazon's prices, so I think your comment about passing trade is particularly relevant.
