Eating in Costa Brava
The Barretina is in c / Lausaca, Figueres and is a most interesting place. You can have the menu del dia up to 11.15 p.m. There are 3 different choices of a 3 course every day. The food is homemade and fantastic. Starters for example could be mussels, chowder, a litre of homemade soup etc. The meal includes wine and bread and is only €9.50. There is a bar here where you will find Catalans and vistors. It is also a hostel - but in fact the rooms have every convenience found in a 4 star hotel. The linen is changed every day.
The Barretina is family run, Louis and his wife Maria Antonia, their daughter Yolende and her husband Zavier after he comes home from working in Barcelona. Zavier has excellent english and is the most helpful, nicest guy you could meet.
After the meal go around to Jordi's Bar in c / Neu. Jordi is a local lad and his wife - who also works there is from Brazil. Here you will meet local Catalans. These people are the salt of the earth. Figueres is full of places like the two I have described.
